thats a great interview tolstoyed. they sounded a bit stoned, but I guess they were just sleepy.
interesting how they seem to be very candid about their approach to music, and how they are aware of their limitations. Very refreshing in amongst the often self-promoting and cryptic bullshit that comes form the likes of Squarepusher and Aphex.

Well I'll be damned, the thread took off somewhat. Still Ed and Andy are under-appreciated on this forum. Thanks for the interview, was actually longer than I was expecting!
It's great to hear that they played this rhythmic acid stuff. Your description sounds kinda similar to the new Balil remix that is forthcoming. It's rooted in old-Black Dog programming with Plaid melodies (that's how it sounds to me).
Was nice to hear the question about the use of different aliases. Ed made mention about not wanting to do minimal stuff because he feels others do it better. I'm glad they will stay away from that minimal crap, but they really should get those old aliases going again and do stuff in the vein of old Detroit Techno on the side. No one did it better IMO (I'll probably be chastised for saying that). 'Norte Route' still has a cult following, even from well known Detroit producers, as just one example.

"that's due to their interest in pop form" hell yeah, perfect person to do a plaid interview, thinking their music is "cheesy"...would you have the courage to say that to them, face to face, "i think your music is cheesy!" ?

it takes courage to say what you think? their melodies are definitelly cheesy..for the most part anyway. if you listened to what they said or read any interviews i think you'd get a better idea of them.

yeah, i heard that interview you did with them, not bad !...most precious part of it is them confirming new album coming in 2008 (well, hopefully)....you did a good job but you could do a lot better if you gave a listen to all their stuff (once more) before doing the intv, many more interesting questions might've been asked, e.g. about working with Jaroc, mixing audio and video, 5.1 etc... anyway, they helped you enough talking much about what they do, very nice of them ;]
meanwhile i'm enjoying Doe, new track available at their myspace, i say it's WICKED

tekkon kinkreet, the movie, is the best animated film i've ever seen. largely, this is because of the amazing soundtrack. But the movie is just fucking brilliant too. I was watching it the other day, in Japanese, without subtitles. My Japanese is so-so but I basically couldn't understand 90% of what was being said. The movie still actually moved me to tears in some parts. I'm always crying at movies though. Never in real life, just at movies.

i watched only a half of it yet, with english subtitles....got a little rest and preparing to watch the other half soon, it's been great so far. i don't usually have the chance to watch a film with soundtrack i already know and enjoy, so it's twice the pleasure, the images are stunning, especially the first sequence with "this city" playing in the background, perfect... i guess i'll see it many more times in the future.
tolst: lots of time if you're a big fan, INNIT ;]

dunno..you'd be surprised how quickly 20 minutes passes.
also, i tend to ask questions that in a way interest me but that are also not asked in every interview they do..i imagine it must get pretty dull for them to talk about the same things over and over again. as for details about their music - you can hear it why would they explain it :)

i'm not sure if they do a lot of interviews, so i'd just ask them about all their current stuff/production/experiences/collaboration that would interest me, as i've mentioned....but ok, once again, good job Tolst !
