in a silly way of wasting some of my time waiting for the
new ae, i'd like to read peoples thoughts on Radiohead's In
Rainbows second cd, or bonus disc. what are your thoughts on
it so far?

I was really unimpressed by In Rainbows. I don't know if I
will bother

I actually ordered the disc box set with the vinyl, pretty
artbook, bonus CD etc.. It's all LUSH.. The vinyl is better
than the CD again, as usual because of the considered
mastering. As for cd2, the production is still fairly
restrained/minimal (like on cd1) for the most part. I think
it's really great actually. They've held back on the huge
rock-out climaxes. Songs like 'Last Flowers' or 'Go Slowly'
could have been monsters during OK Comp but they've held
back... they've been doing that a lot. I like it but
probably prefer 'Last Flowers' as guitar rather than piano.
'Bangers and Mash' is brilliant.. possibly the most
danceable Radiohead track ever?? 'Up On The Ladder' is
sweet.. very synthy. Again, it's kind of stripped back but
effective. The little interlude tracks (MK1 and 2) are a
bit pointless, though the first one sort of works as a lead
in to the disc. It's probably an 8/10- this from a pretty
resolute Radiohead fan.

awesome. i agree with just about everything you said there.
the mks are pretty much a waste. i dont see the point,
espicially of mk2. i can see the lead in from mk1 [or lead
out from videotape, whichever way you want to see it] im
really digging up on a ladder but i am not basing that on
any previous versions as i dont really know that song too
well. im very happy with it.

i'm not hugely into "Down Is The New Up"... it's ok, i'm
sure it will grow on me...

i was surprised how well "Go Slowly" turned out... i let out
an audible groan when i heard the live version, but this one
is awesome... i love it...

"Last Flowers" i find a bit boring...

i fucking love "Up On The Ladder" it's amazing... i don't
know what it reminds me of... i think it's a bit "hood" or
"home video" both bands i love... favorite on cd2...

"Bangers n Mash" is pretty cool... it's fun, i like...

"4 Minute Warning" is possibly my least favorite of the In
Rainbows bunch... it is incredibly bland to my ears...

Mk1 & Mk2 are a bit whatever, but i like em for what they
are...

up on the ladder sounds too much like i might be wrong to
me.
the guitar is like really similar, the simple electronic
beat..
the intro to bangers on mash also remnds me of crosseyed and
painless by talking heads, but its ok cos its such a cool
tune.

rather let down by this cd. it's alright, but it really is
kinda dull.. and the MK tracks are the most innapropiate
things ever :P

i want them to release studio demos of videotape and up on
the ladder similar to the live versions. they were good
shit.

that said, alot of other songs have been greatly improved.

i think that basement version of videotape is on one of the
jigsaw singles. totally agree with bangers. the more i
listen to it, the less i like it. seems very sloppy.

the piano at the chorus in last flowers sounds like karma
police.

cd2 is only part of the discbox, which has cd1, cd2, 2vinyls
of the main album, artwork and and lyrics &such, all in a
nice box.
if you wanna get it, here is the link (the
original In Rainbows site is going down on 10th of december
i think.. so no more free downloads!)
hope that answers your question. the cd release of in
rainbows that'll be available in shops will just be disc 1.

thats okay because after two listens through disc 2, i could
care less if they don't sell it. i'm sure i'll change my
mind down the line, but right now, i'm not really liking
those tracks much

Yeah, I noticed that. The track was written and recorded
during OK Comp, so it's stylistically similar to tunes
around that time. I actually liked the live performance
from a while back featuring guitar. If they'd over-dubbed
guitar like that, this tune might have been one notch up in
goodness, see here:
live Last Flowers

someday in the year 2099 they will release it as a
Radiohead-best-of-In-Rainbows-xtra-disk-b-sides.
