New Autechre album (Quaristice) out on 3/3-08

that interview was a good read. im psyched for 3.3 and i
dont want to hear anything of that record until that day. i
made the mistake of listening to simmm outside of the
context of the record and thats it for that.

listening to the outside of the context of the album is bad
i agree but that's a condition youve created on you own isnt
it? the ideal sitation for me wouldve been never stumbling
upon this thread and subsequently find out that promo's were
out..creating this feeling of lack that i was unable to
listen to something i really wanted to listen to and was
able to listen to. but, like your condition mines created
too isn't it hahahaha

each and every gl0tch post in this thread makes me sick,
anyone else with me who waits for the CD and doesn't bother
listening to any leaks ?

i dont mind waiting either, i find it more a rewarding first
listen. i did that for tool's 10,000 days. they are probably
my fav band of all time, and i found it very easy to stay
away from all the leaks. but maybe its easier for them
because the art is a big part of their music, not the case
with ae. but nonetheless, ae is in my top 5 so it isnt that
hard to not want it right away. i thought i couldnt wait for
the new clark, and now i have have it and its meh right now.
i guess i have to give it time like anything else though.
but the way i look at it, ae provides a quality product that
lasts for years, so in the scope of thins, 5 weeks is
nothing compared to how many years im going to love it

thats the first time safari has ever crashed. i think the
elements are telling me to just wait so im just going to
obey that command i guess, lol

yeah there's just that inescapable feeling of being teased.
but it's a condition thats fabricated in the mind, it's a
"lack" that isn't really a "lack" at all when u look at it
the right way i feel. youre right on about the 5-weeks
versus years thing too thanks for posting that!

great interview.

and if autechre should ever read this, dont worry mates your
music is magical beyond belief!
people who say its generated emotionless crap are stupid, i
dont mind saying it..
i feel people who say stuff like that arent really absorbing
the music, taking in the arrangement, the placement of the
sounds, the evolving nature of most tracks they make.. hard
to explain properly though..

and a followup to this

even hypothetically if a track was completely computer
generated automatically it wouldn't mean that it didnt have
tons of emotion either.

i feel in some ways we exaggarate the uniqueness of human
choice and perception, in regards to a lot of things.
purely philosophical speaking we dont even know the
difference between the machines we use and the machines we
are. (i mean on a fundamental level, how it all comes
together and works)

we could in theory be completely in harmony with everything
around us, and we dont have complete control over every
aspect of every sound we make either.

yada yada, my point is its not as simplistic as some people
put it out to be.

CX yes i totally agree, check out a generative musician
named David Koepe a professor for UC santa cruz

basically this guy disproved that bullshit assumption about
emotion by staging a hoax where he had a symphony perform a
'previously unheard bach piece'. In actuality it was
entirely algorithmically generated midi score done in the
style of Bach. A reviewer who wrote about the piece thought
it was amazing and a beautiful Gem lost from Bach's
collection. Afterwards the professor revealed the true
nature of the song to the reviewer. the reviewer felt so
cheated he wrote a followup criticizing the entire concept
saying it 'lacked emotion' was 'cheating' and 'not real
music'.

the reviewer was an idiot and so is anyone else who thinks
just because something is computer generated it lacks human
emotion or lacks the ability to evoke strong emotions

It's irrelevant arguing "computer generated sound / music"
may or may not evoke "emotion", the sound of a train evokes
emotion, radio static evokes emotion, if you're a sensitive
soul. A mainframe ticking over, humming and gentlly
whirrring now and again evokes emotion, the whole gamut of
feelings the listener brings. Did you not read the bit in
the interview where Sean/Rob (depending on which way the
photo's flipped) says that some old tracks on tape he had
sounded better than the actual sources, because of all the
audio tat they'd picked up along the way and, no doubt,
their context (for him). Fuck music, fuck FLAC, fuck the
audiophiles, just fucking listen, dig a little and move
along.

i like the way some producers has become honest with their
music and the people that listen to it. i didnt read an
autechre interview before Barcode's one, i've first noticed
this attitude reading one of Burial's interview when Untrue
came out. it just feels they're not fooling us, and
themselves too.
