Any PS3ers play this yet? Being a PS3 exclusive puts this
game at an exposure disadvantage which is too bad.

I'm not too far into it, the game is ridiculously gorgeous
and building up such a great sense of escapism and mystery.
For a videogame, the presentation, acting and script are
really sharp. High quality stuff, feels to me like Indiana
Jones Interactive.

Hopefully it delivers on this promise. The cover/shooting
system is lots of fun, lifted from Gears of War with the
addition of cool close quarters combat and the AI seems to
be sharper... but I'm really playing this game for the
exploration and stuff. To see what happens and what kind of
environments and shit you get to discover. The demo focused
too much on the gunplay rather than spelunking and
platforming and puzzle solving.

GoW had some really good AI, actually. How is the AI sharper
in this?

It'll probably be about a year before I get a PS3, but I
really want to play this game. It looks gorgeous.

Yeah I'm not dissing GoW's AI, it's solid apart from Dom the
Retard, but I like how dynamic the movements of the pirates
in this game are. There's no aim-assist and they're
constantly bobbing and weaving. They rely more on mobility
than the big lugs from Gears.

(I'm not playing on Hard or Crushing for my first save
though, I'm a pussy... this game is supposed to be really
tough, I'll work my way up to Crushing)

Haha, I didn't take that as a dis, I was just wondering.
It's an underappreciated bit of GoW though, I think. I
always liked the way the enemies flanked, hid and
strategized in general. Lots of surprises, although they
almost made me fling the controller around the room on some
occasions.

On an OT note, have you played CoD4 yet? I'm borrowing it
from a friend of mine, and while I loved CoD2 to death
(first game I got for my 360), coming to CoD4 after just
finishing HL2EP2 felt like a gigantic letdown. I think the
CoD series has done all it can for me, it's just too much of
a cartride show at this point. Way too much scripting and
monster closeting for my liking. The progress feels so
forced too, it's insane. I'm very disappointed after being
relatively hyped for it, since CoD2 was so good. The reviews
have been excellent as well. Oh well. Oh, and the texture
resolution (at least on 360) is an absolute atrocity. Very
last-gen.

The AI here is very similar in the ways they use the cover
and the ways they flush you out of yours. Gears had a great
system, I'm glad games like this are taking it/building on
it. The melee system is a nice addition here. In the demo
there was a guy behind a pillar taking cover. I snuck around
behind him and hit the melee button and Drake leaped onto
his back and started choking him out... and while he was
flailing me about I heard an ominous beeping and realized I
was able to sneak up on him me because he was preparing a
grenade. We died as one. I also enjoy kicking pirates in the
crotch.

I liked CoD4... obviously the scripting can make the whole
thing feel a bit contrived, and I HATED the scenes where
enemies seemed to spawn forever, but it was a nice brisk fun
campaign with some awesome setpieces. I think there's a
place for all that scripting, if I want a more freeform
experience, I'll play something else. CoD is all about
setpieces and pre-baked drama.

The textures sucked but I think it was a worthwhile tradeoff
for the butter smooth 60fps. The lighting and effects often
made the game look almost photo-realistic as long as you
didn't make a point to stand still just to barf on the assy
ground textures. I hope Resistance makes the same
sacrifices. 60fps should be standard for fast paced shooters
like that.

I think the general consensus is the campaign is getting
stale, but apparently the online is amazing. I wouldn't
know, I don't enjoy online FPS' and only spent about an hour
playing it. Seemed fun.

Resistance 2, I mean. If Insomniac can get the insanely
active and action packed Ratchet and Clank running at 60fps,
I don't see why they can't do the same for R2.

OK, now that I'm deep into I can safely say this is easily
the best action/adventure since RE4. All killer no filler.
But RE4 was 20+ hours of all killer no filler and it doesn't
seem like any adventure game has the cajones to match it. I
really wish this was that long. This is the kind of game
where you cringe every time you get to a new chapter,
because you know you're one chapter closer to the end. It's
a satisfying length but nothing more.

Though for sure I'm going to restart this game as soon as I
beat it to find all the treasure, get all the
''achievements'' (the rewards are well worth it) and try to
beat it on Crushing. It's definitely the most beautiful game
I've played and the presentation feels way too good to be a
lowly videogame. The only thing I'd change is the length of
some of the battles. This game is TOUGH and it sucks to die
at the end of a fight and have to re-do the whole thing. The
game throws too many mean dudes at you sometimes. The fights
are fun but the adventure sequences are the best. So many
WOW moments.

I have a sickly feeling this game is going to be a sales
disappointment while vastly inferior action games like
Assassin's Creed make a killing.

sounds interesting, but it's not enough for me to go out and
buy a PS3... it would take a LOT more than one or two
nigh-great games to do that... like you said, it's a shame,
really...

gears of war had solid ai? run to the nearest 'cover' and
duck behind it, pop out and shoot. Occasionally run to
another cover. I think, ignoring the 3d stuff nonessential
to the ai, I could program something similar myself somewhat
quickly if I knew how the fuck to program. That game was
mostly suck. Modern 3d games maybe suffer from slow
pace/lack of fast action, unlike the hyper fun
unrealistically fast running speed of doom2 and its
countless wads requiring fast reflexes and pretty much
infinite skill as you can always just play or make a harder
level. If you play one modern game you play them all. It's
all like one game called '3D' with a ton of sequals. The new
3D mario version! Ooh, 3D fagquest and boring shooter where
all the enemies are humans/ or at least bipeds (because the
unimaginative human mind can only anthropomorphize an alien
as some sort of monstery head on an otherwise humanish body)
with instant shooting weapons because that's
realistic which is important for a game. Nevermind
that different monsters that do different things like
resurrect the dead or shoot slower non instant projectiles
make for more varied gameplay.

ANd I hate the meme that spread that says bosses have to be
mostly puzzle based instead of skill. We can't go making a
game too hard now or we would lose market share from all the
people that suck. Oh awesome I got to a boss and it looks
wicked. What... you just have to dodge it and direct it to
break pillars (bezerker)? That's stupid and easy.

And just navigating the menus and cutscenes is like being
forced to watch a commercial every 5 minutes.

I just saw a video where you have to ride up a river with a
jet ski :O And it looked like poo. I'm happy to only own an
xbox 360 and have exclusive games like mass effect and not
some shitty Lara Croft reap off. At least SHE had the BOOBS.

Now that the Unreal engine is finished on the PS3, Bioware
being part of EA and sales on the PS3 increasing I reckon
Mass Effect (or at least the IP) will be multi platform soon
enough.

This game is amazing, I didn't think there was anything to
rival Metal Gear Solid 4 for graphics but some parts of this
game are the best i've ever seen, i'm towards the end now
and its taken a completely unexpected turn, its pretty damn
tense and i have to play a completely different way now,
didn't expect this game to become survival horror at all!
Its all good though!

I'm really surprised at the story telling too, its just like
a great 80's adventure movie... the quality of the voice
acting, music, animation is so far above what i was
expecting.

This game is really underrated, it barely got 90 in some
reviews and considering when it came out it should have
gotten much better scores.

I've seen my friend play it for a bit and it looks just as
boring and clumsy as Tomb Raider. Also it's kind of ugly.

(i kind of like the first tomb raider)

I loved it too. And the scene where you ride a jet ski up
the river had the best looking water effects ever.
It was surprising for me how well all the different aspects
of action-adventure gaming were covered. I especially liked
the level of diffiulty during fights. It IS challenging but
never frustrating. Well, I might have thrown a "kurwa!"
several times during one of the encounters in the nazi base,
but didn't lose the urge to try again and again.

For me the hardest part was definitely the big three-way
fight with the pirates and zombies in that crate-ful
warehouse. The gunplay in this game isn't flawless, but I
love the combat dynamics on the hardest setting. Tense.

I think trophies were added this week, gives me a good
excuse to play this game again. Uncharted 2 would pretty
much be a perfect game if they add one or two more segments
like the U-boat chapter... no combat, just light puzzle
solving and graphic gawking.

Wasn't that warehouse in a former nazi base? I think we are
talking about the same fight. The one in which you had to
avoid the fucking laser sight by hiding behind the crates
while the scripts kept making sure you were always spotted
by somebody. Actually it was a dock I think.

Oh yeah, it was a dock. Up to that point the game had a
refreshing lack of crates, so of course the most annoying
part of the game just HAD to be full of them. At least there
was no crate moving puzzles.

Man that part gave me fits during my hardest save, no other
part came close. I tried 100 different approaches... brute
force with the shotgun, climbing up on the catwalks and
sniping, using stealth and melee attacks, throwing grenades
everywhere... but I just ended up running through it in a
miracle dash and got lucky.

Just moved to a new place, we got the ps3 hooked up with 5.1
surround. Haven't tried Drake's Fortune yet, don't know if
it has surround, but MGS4 has true realtime 5.1, and
it's fucking awesome!

I'm going to buy a Sony Bravia to get 1080p, then I'll play
through it.

Drake's fortune has DTS, which, I must admit, is slightly
more impressive than 5.1. The problem is that the game
doesn't need it much.

I've only now come to realise this. It could, also, be

probably the best looking game out there in fact.

When I got to the pool on top of the hotel, I just kind of
walked around for 5 minutes admiring it. It's impressive
technically but the art direction is crazy, there's so much
detail and variety it's kind of hard to take it in without
just standing still for a bit.

The best thing about this game for me has been the addition
of more optional stealth elements, it's fun to see how many
guys you can take down before they figure out you're there,
makes the skirmishes more interesting. The first game had a
little too much shooting, this game strikes a much finer
balance between running, killing, hiding exploring,
wise-cracking and jumping.

Also, the game looks twice as good as MGS4 or any other
third party game, and has no install and no loading, ever.
Would be nice if Sony's studios would share their secrets,
because Naughty Dog, Guerrilla et al are just putting the
third party stuff to shame.

This was like the most perfectly paced action game possible.
I so want to complain about something, but the campaign was
the tightest shit ever. Every scene was awesome.

I was a little disappointed with Uncharted 2, its a great
game but it didn't quite live up to my expectations after
the first one. It has quite a slow start and about half way
through the game there is more platforming than in the
entire history of platformers, it wasn't quite as balanced
as the first game where these sections were spread out
nicely. The banter between characters was a nice touch but
why did they model chloe so ugly, brunettes are usually
better looking than blondes.

In the end I enjoyed the first game more, it has a more
focused story, doesn't try to do too much and still looks
stunning, imo only the last area in Uncharted 2 looked
better.

The village/mountain climbing is like my favorite part in
the game! Climbing all those gears gave me a Prince of
Persia vibe at times, which was nice because the last PoP
game sucked.

Ideally I would have wanted yet another exploration-based
chapter like that, though I can see your point in how it
kind of makes the game flow strangely. For me, the first
game had way too much focus on non-stop, superlong gunfights
and the platforming parts were comparatively too short. The
stealth made the combat so much more interesting in this
game, I could actually get myself into different positions
to start with and try different tactics.
