actually i thought i was going to go see neotropic, who has
nice visuals - chill music. saw her once in NY.
(di i have the right night)

the others? not to familiar.

saw reuben wu (from ladytron) on saturday there.
the intermission dj was good, and the opening retro boys
were fun to boog to,,, and while wu played some good tracks-
he was a terrible jockey. i'm not even sure what he was
doing up there with his headphones.

but yeah i go there occasionally.

you can't make music for yourself forever. as close to fact
as you can come-- eventually an artist's output demands an
audience.

Anyone who claims they make art for just themselves is full
of shit.

"...can expand your conciousness, in that you may see things

from a wider perspective away from the "ego" and in a more
objective way..."

how about instead of a wider perspective how bout a new and
unique perspective not attainable by any other means

while drugs can give you some insight...they also will
permentally be bad for your mind... while i enjoyed some of
my drug experiences... i regret it now simply because it has
made me that much sharp in a competive world... ie. school
and money.... if you plan on working at a gas station all
you're life then you have no reason not to do drugs... if
you want to make more money then ususally being smart is the
key.

well I haven't tried this stuff and I never will (probably)
as it is almost sure to fuck up my mind (schizophrenia in
the family..!).

if you learn something for your drug use, great. if you
learn something from sitting in a chair and staring at a
speck of dust, great. it doesn't really matter.

on the making music for yourself thing:
I make music primarily for myself and also to give it to
other people to listen to. however, when I'm making it, I
never (consciously at least) try to make something that'll
affect someone else in a specific way. then I'm just trying
to make something that affects myself.

trying to find out how other people react to music and
trying to implement that, seems to me to be impossible.

ummm... I don't know how to respond to individual posts
(someone inform me, please!) but this is in response to
illfates posts... some of the most intriguing I've seen here
in a while (I normally lurk). I'm now 25 and don't take
psychs anymore... I don't really do much of anything anymore
except the (very) occasional pill or bit of charlie... I'm
mainly a smokin' and drinkin' person (far more insidious
drugs if you ask me!) but when I was 17-20 I did a lot of
acid and shrooms... This was long before I was familiar with
any IDM (puke... I hate that term). And I can see a lot of
parallels with your experiences. Fractal images are well
common and I can't explain why, but Terence McKenna had some
interesting theories... Aztec art is not fractal, but it is
very geometric and repetitive. McKenna had a very
interesting theory that it was all based on the experiences
of the Aztec elite (ie artists and priests) for whom the
ingestion of psychedelics was a sacrament - basically they
were creating a facsimile in their art of their experiences
whilst under the influence of psych drugs. This is plainly
obvious to anyone with psych drug experience who's also seen
any aztec art. Also, interestingly, the human brain has
fractal dimension in itself.
I've also had similar experiences in a group of close
friends not having to complete sentences in conversation
whilst under the influence... The meaning is sorta implied
in some strange way. So don't worry, you're not crazy...
these sort of things are pretty common IMHO.
Fractal programs : FRACTINT!!!!! I have spent many a happy
hour looking at images from this program whilst tripping...
You can d/l it from www.spanky.triumf.ca I think.
Finally, FWIW, I've gone from Lurker to Reg to Addict and
back to Lurker again in the space of 2 weeks...
Have fun exploring, illfates. And listen to some Tangerine
Dream while tripping, too, it's fun.

a lot of negative claims about drugs coming through this
thread that are based on people imposing their experience or
lack there of on other's. life is very subjective, as is
drug use.

exogenous chemical induced alterations in quality of
consciousness is not "bad" or "good." drugs don't
"permanently damage your mind" and they don't make you see
god. chemical agents, both "natural" and lab made have the
potential to be and do all of these things. i don't
understand how you can question somebody seeing god on a
psychedelic. all of our ancesters first discovered this
universal human experience often felt to be the presence of
"god" through the use of psychoactives. seeing "god" in
itself is not even a good thing. the experience can be used
as an inspiration for living more compassionately and
harmonious, or it can be taken for granted along with any
other outcome. personal responibility.

objectively as i can see it, we have evolved with the
chemicals we are made of and the quality of consciousness we
have by natural selection; the sober mind state is one that
is advantagous to life. obviously being in the psychedelic
realm all of our life might be detrimental, rendering us
unable to cope with life. this does not mean that there
aren't advantages to taking occasional journeys to other
mindstates with chemicals. if such experiences turn you
off, there is probably no reason you should investigate such
realms. if you had a bad experience with drugs, it does
mean everyone has bad experiences with drugs and you
shouldn't impose your experience on others. like fire,
drugs are potentially dangerous, more so even, but does this
warrant the intense tabu that exists?

i've had the experience of not needing to finish sentances.
when you reach a certain level of sensitivity like that
induced by the psychedelics you can really closely match
eachother's mindstate. i think if we evolve in sensitivity,
communication will likely evolve alongside, more going on
with tone of voice, facial expression, body language, than
the symbolic commincation of the language itself. maybe
language will someday be left to text? all of our vocals
could be spontaneous transmissions of nonsymbolic sound.
interesting how much lyricless vocal music coming out.

that sensitivity is a human skill

i consider myself to be quite empathatic
how i got this way is a bit of a long story

but i tell you what
i see so many lost people
and often enuf i feel just like that

i have my battle-scars of the good times
often i feel old beyond my years
but i have emerged as a lover of people

much like meen was saying,
ive had doors shut and open
im thankful that ive been able to work back in recent times,
boot some old doors open again
and let the air thru

thats come from a few hard lessons and some big scares

Lots of drugs bring up different feeling emotions, thoughts
and thought processes. It does literally open doors for you
in your mind, but its kind of a lie too because its not
really that way either. There is no real truth and any
useful learning from drugs.
