My purchases are a let-down.

Wuth all the Christmas and birthday monery I've received
lately, I've been buying purely albums.

I got:

SAWII by Aphex. I think it's okay, but I really can't see
what's so special about it.

FSOL - The Isness. Now THIS purchase was decent. In fact I
love this CD so much, it's probably up there with my
all-time favourites.

U-Ziq - Lunatic Harness. Again, this one caught me by
surprise and I was eager to pick it up, but it feels a lot
like "chance" music to me. Hasty Boom Alert's great,
though.

And just today:

Nightmares On Wax - Carboot Soul.

This one's good for chillin to, but it doesn't have any
oomph or drive or anything. Kinda dreary.

Anyway, I'm sorry for rambling on. I just feel a bit let
down, thinking I could've got some better albums.

What do you guys think of this stuff?

I like Carboot soul - don't read too much into it, it's just
really good background music. If you want some Mu-ziq I
recommend royal astronomy. It's worth buying the whole album
just for "The motorbike track"

You're right about car boot soul.

SAW2 grows on you. I felt the same way when I got it. Now I
listen to it several times a week.

Sleep to SAWII, real mellow and won't wake you up half way
thru.

It only got better the more I plaid it so listen to Ceri.

yeah...i've been buying a lot of cd's the past few weeks
too.. a lot of them have been on a whim.. 'oh this looks
neat' ..and then they end up being sort of disappointing..

and yeah saw2 is a grower.. just give it a few months..

carboot soul and lunatic harness are pretty good too.. i
dont remember being particularly excited about them on first
listen either..
i find that happens with a lot of my favorite cds

yep.. the best music cd´s are growers. Give it time, Toe.
Are you in a hurry? Also, I have found that my fave music
recently is stuff i have sampled from the web...
Plod, Secret Agent Gel, Tarwater, and DJ Squarepusher and
Aphex Twin Live.

Getting music based on this board or on whats deemed as
"classic electrom¡nica" and hoping it will blow you away on
the first listen just AIN´T gonna happen, mate.

Yeah, what everyone said. SAWII is really beautiful, it just
takes alot of time to get into.

Listen to it a few more times. Or maybe put it aside for a
couple of weeks and then listen to it again. Sleeping to it
is also a very good idea. I do it all the time and it really
worked for me!

I don't think anyone that owns SAW II for a longer time
doesn't like it. (except the funkmaster). Everybody seems to
love it, so i'm sure it'll get to you too :-)

hey i only buy old music so no complaining :(

the new sounds are usually too modern to me. i can't say i
like drukqs or confield for example, but then again i like
incunabula or saw 1.

toejam: did you get dead cities?

Monoid > why buying only new albums? ' _ -
newer isn't always better!

i don't care whether an album is the latest or not, i care
about its quality...

(besides, it's not that old, is it?)

Yeah, same, Uzim!

Hey, people, don't get me wrong, I'm in no hurry! And
yes...I listened to SAWII today, and it's getting slightly
better with each listen. I find that it does an excellent
job of reflecting the happiness, sadness and confusion etc.
of my life so far...

I'm really into Disc 1 atm.

My parents love Carboot Soul, and I don't really have a
proper Chillout CD so that's good that I own one now (and
how could I resist if it was on the Warp label? I trust
Warp's taste through and through).

So...yeah. And I REALLY LIKE the first three tracks of
Lunatic Harness, but the rest? Sorta too bizarre in a
comical way.

I'm gettin' der, y'all, I'm gettin' der!

Plod's 'Pillow Talk' is an amazing album, such beautiful
melodies.

yeah..i've always thought that the first half of lunatic
harness is spectacular..but the rest is somewhat
forgettable..

i was thinking that if he replaced the tracks after
approaching menace with the ones he put on the brace
yourself ep... the album would be perfect...
so yeah..go pick up the brace yourself ep next.. i think its
one of his best releases..as a whole, better than royal
astronomy, methinks.. thought that one has its moments too
