"harmful" that sounds like your ears would explode or something. through cutting from audio sounds that you don't pay attention to, the mp3 standard is flattening audio. they say that after listening to mp3 to much, you could for example don't hear a car on a noisy street...

ah hararr.. . nah.. . I dont believe that at all.. . flattening audio can not harm your hearing.. . if frequencies were boosted then yes Id believe that it was possible. ..

i see what the article is saying (i think). For example human eyes can see most shades of green, because green is the most abundant colour on Earth. The eyes experienced the green most, so they could adapt to it and improve recognition of different shades better.
Now for the ears, if they were fed with audio, which was only between 20Hz-20KHz, then low frequency/hi frequency would be heard less often and hearing would evolve so that you distinguised the sounds you heard more often, than the sounds you hear less often, so the sounds you dont hear as much would not be as distinguishable. Do you think so?

I don't believe in this. For one, humas can't hear sounds below 20 hz or sounds over 20 khz in frequency so what's the harm in cutting them out? I tested my own hearing and I can't hear anything above ~17.5khz. Light is also a waveform, and humans can't see ultra violet light, nor infrared and UV is just a good thing for your eyes to cut out.

I'm going to see about this here Vorbis. I like the fact that it's completely open source with no patent bullshit.
Is there an FAQ somewhere on how to get the highest audio quality? Like, if you encode MP3s with Lame there are great high quality presets...

yes and the computer you are sitting in front of will give you cancer, as will the tv screens you watch, the phones you talk into will give you tumors, the microwave ovens radiate turds that make your stomach turn green, and the meat you consume has harmful chemicals.

I'm buying the fastest PC I can get in 2003 because apparently the new version of Windows is gonna hit in 2004.
Its filesystem will be a proprietary encrypted database (no more dual booting and reading your fat32 or ntfs drives from Linux). It will have DRM features that work with DRM (digital rights management) built into the hardware to enforce total control. "Yes ma'am, these new handcuffs and leg irons will keep you safe from all hackers and viruses!"
It will become impossible to copy or view anything without paying a fee. Pay per use will become a reality. Everytime someone listens to Britney Spears, cha-ching. Want to write your own music? You better be a "licensed musician".
Anyone who attempts to install Linux on DRM hardware WILL BE SHOT.
No man will be able to buy or sell without a mark on his hand or forehead.
And the sun was a tiny red ball, like the wildly spinning eye of a cow whose head has been kept alive in a laboratory dish.
