I defined singles as tracks that were released to radio and
MTV outlets, not just any songs.

As for my albums of the year for 2002, I haven't heard all
of nor bought Venetian Snares' Higgins album, and his Winter
In The Belly Of A Snake has been backordered for weeks now.
So they may be worthy of the list, I don't know. A lot of
other good stuff came out this year like Múm, Req, and
Astrobotnia, but I bought so many albums that they didn't
make it to the last 20. The N*E*R*D album was technically
released in 2002 but they had it on their web site for all
of 2001, so...

curious what you base this on.

best production, diversity in sound, overall appeal,
undergroundness

just curious, it's funny to see Eminem and Squarepusher on
the same list :)

Interesting year wasnt it chaps?

i base it on everything, so it's just overall how much i
like it.. a lot of great stuff didn't make it to the top 20,
not cos it's inferior but cos i don't feel as compelled to
listen to it as much (or for the most serious artists i
don't think their album was as up to par as the other
"artistic statements" on the list)

anyway, it's all subjective, i just made a topic out of it
cos a few people asked me specifically for my picks and i
told them to wait

hey, at least your honest about the subjective nature of
your list, and that you consider music that spans a large
selection of genres.

Did you used to have the cover to "Blackalicious Blazing
Arrow" as an avatar or do I need glasses?

hahah i had a good laugh at titsworth's singles list.
although i gotta give you credit for the 'nas' track, do
like that one.

what about...

Ambulance 7" on Planet mu ?

i haven't heard it, who did ambulance? anyway, pretty paltry
list of singles i know, but it wasn't exactly a great year
for mainstream music. i didn't care much for the stuff you
brits listened to this year either (as defined by the NME,
the bastion of british culture - OBVIOUSLY! ;).

machine: it's hard to define it cos it does sound like a
jazz band from the past, yet it's mostly one guy and the
production techniques and equipment are of today. it's a
nice contrast. i'd definitely put this album in more of a
jazz category than anything electronic. have you heard any
of it yet? every track is great, but my favorites are
probably "every day" and "all things to all men."

repeated listens

take me until next year to get into them more (or actually
buy them..)

2002 was not my cup of tea... I saw just a few albums I
loved on the list. Then when I looked at your 2001 list...
all kinds of great shit. Excluding Gorillaz, of course. :-)

its truth that 2001 was better than 2002... but 2001 will be
remembered as a great year, one of the bests
