After having seen the new warp-artist satanstornade.. i
downloaded some of this guy masami akita's stuff.. all
merzbow..

i couldn't believe my ears when i heard it, i thought
GantzGraf was noise (though i like GG).. man! i should've
been warned, cause it said: 'Category: Noise'

i really couldn't listen to this, it drove me nuts! is there
anyone who actually likes Merzbow???

..maybe i get into it after a while, it happened with
GantzGraf and some other stuff

but i doubt if it will happen with this akita-dude

(although i didn't like the 'music' i'm interested in Akita,
i saw some pictures of him performing and also read about
him, he's an interesting guy)

i have 'a taste of...' in streaming (you can find it at
mego.at), and some tracks in mp3:

ultra marine blues
mirage
aura
the purity of chaos with cosmos (don't know if it's a fake,
at least it sounds very like the other merzbow i have)
worms plastic earthbound

and the ae remix of ecobondage ending (which sounds 99% ae
and 1% merzbow)

and dharma should come tomorrow if the mailman doesn't steal
it °_° and music for performance v1 for christmas!

so yes, i like merzbow. :)

i think that if a thing like 'anti-music' exists, it must
sound like merzbow. (:

A friend of mine loves merzbow, because is the farthest you
can go from human music...

I kinda like it, but I have to be in the mood for it =/

Has any of you heard the Autechre remix of Merzbow?

Very, very good...

yes.

but strangely, it's not as mood-exigeant as some other music
(lp5, ep7...).

I got SatansTornade but I have nothing else by Masami apart
from one 'Bastard Noise' track. It done some fucked up
things with my thinking and well worth it for me. It's
totally chill when you compare it to Nic Endo's new album
tho.

I'm glad I got SatansTornade but I don't think i'm going to
run around buying loads of Merzbow.

Im not sure about Merzbow...its not the sorta stuff u put on
every day...it fits a mood. It reminds me of the type of
feedback and distorted radio sounds I used play around with
years ago - they were more accessible, instantly sounded
complex and were easier to create than the intense effort
that is required to produce a harmonic, structured piece of
music....he's been a bit naughty getting away with releasing
relatively random stuff that we could all do if we were
feeling lazy....but fair play to him.

I turned this guy's stuff off after about 10 seconds of each
track on a Merzbox sampler. Godawful stuff but I'm aware
that's point.

Merzbow is pure ecstasy. His music is beautifully complex
for all its randomness. And the volume is just divine. I
have about 12 Merzbow/ Akita releases with another 15 coming
my way this week. Pure bliss.

The most comprehensive webspot for m'bow:

12 and another... 15?!! °_°
whoa

what are they?

Not all of his music is like that. Satans tornade is really
simular to his album Pulse deomon. Try his other albums like
tauromachine, or maldoror. He has over a hundred albums, so
dont get turned off by the first "song" you hear.

What are they? CD's with music, what do you think they are?

Hmmm, Satanstornade is like a pop version of "Pulse Demon",
it sunds to me as though Russell and Akita really had some
fun making it.

i like MERZBOW
my admiration comes from a combination of respect of the
artform of Merz, Fluxist, and avant garde, and the simple
fact that he is one twisted man who does soundtracks for
bondage and writes books on the art of noise and sex!

you're welcome jupitah!

about merzbow... the cover of tauromachine, it's an
anamorphosis, i'm sure.

i'd be curious to see the original pic he used... if anyone
wants to try with a reflective cylinder on the cover or
something (or maybe you can do it with photoshop?)...

pic! ' _ -

if you like Merzbow, you'll probably love Masonna. If you
DON'T like Merzbow, then try Masonna instead. Very, very
good.

so... Dharma!

the first three tracks are very nice, but a little short (5,
4 and 7 minutes long)... i couldn't say which i like most
between the three, they're all quite different, the first
('I'm coming to the garden... no sound, no memory')
with his (relative ;)) quietness, the third ('piano space
for marimo kitty'
) with little weird piano melody,
repeated on the whole track but sometimes drowned in the
arabesques of noise... track 2 (akashiman) doesn't
have such a particular particularity but is as good as 1 and
3.
track 4 seems splitted into two parts (frozen guitars and
sunloop / 7E 802
) and is much longer (over 30
minutes!!)... i'd say part one (first 12 or 15 minutes) is
'frozen guitars and sunloop'. it is the best part of the
album, it is merzbow, yes, but it has some kind of beauty in
it, and even if it's noise, it sounds... subtle.
second part though, maybe '7E 802', isn't as good, it is a
bit tedious and doesn't do much for me. it is not really
bad, but seems pale in comparison of the other tracks.

the packaging is a digipak with a simple but somewhat classy
front cover (all white with a "reflective" ginkgo leaf),
inside it is coloured, not bad except that the typography
used inside (for track listing and the title again) really
suck. it would have been much nicer if they used another
font.

all in all, i'm pretty satisfied, it's a good album. :)
