Music videos.

What do you believe they do?

You have three choises:

a. corrupt music
b. express music through images
c. none of the above, insert own opinion

It really depends on the artist, actually.

I would have to say ditto too

it really depends on the artist...

yeah, for most pop artists i really don't think they give a
flying fuck what goes on in their videos or how their music
gets around, as long as the companies are making money.
on the other hand 'idm' (the new name has slipped my mind)
arists and the music video producers (chris cunningham to
name a major one) really seem to want the visual to relate
to the music and so on.

what were you thinking?

if it weren't for aphex twin and squarepusher having kick
ass vids (windowlicker / come on my selector) i wouldn't be
listening to them today, or be sitting here at my computer
talking to you fine folks!

b. express music through images

It's just that if you have music corrupting music (Britney
=N'sync), then the accompanying videos do the same.

b. in all cases

listening to music & watching accompanying images uses both
sides of the brain at once thence endorsing whatever
experience you are experiencing

even worse are the big money-making artists who DO take an
interest and think they're all artistic..

examples: Pink - a hazard to myself and ofcourse, Busta
Rhymes - pass the corvousier..

i agree with pachi, but pessimistically :P

"what was i thinking?" spoonz, that sentence wasn't sarcasm.
it depends (or varies) on the musician.
i was merely stating an opinion, do not attack me.

Personally, I can't see any expression in most of those
mainstream pop videos; A chick dressed in bikini sings and
dances with about twelve other people dancing exactly the
same... On the other hand I don't see any corruption in them
ether.
But if the video contains good looking chicks it will
definently promote the song.

C: I belive that music videos are a different form of art,
more connected to cinema than music.
If I would do a music video, I would use the music only to
give emphasis to the images and the emotions and not vice -
versa.

Usually when I watch a music video I get more interested in
the images than in the music. And the images have a larger
inpact on me than the music itself.

Obviously this is just my opinion...
