"A Giant Alien Force More Violent & Sick Than Anything You
Can Imagine. canadian aaron funk's music polarizes
listeners: you either love it or hate it - there is nothing
in between. the number of releases he has put out is as
weird as his sound treatments. up-tempo breakbeats,
destructed drum and bass patterns/loops merge to sonicly
attack the mind. this is far beyond 'noise' cliches. after
the brilliant and surprisingly successful 'doll doll doll',
hymen records presents "a v.s." a 3" cd that contains one
single track (that is as long as the title). a contrast of
rhythmic high-speed rage and spacey moods. some people would
extract an entire album from this psychedelic breakcore
concentrate. funk intended 'a giant alien force...' as a
soundtrack -- so we decided to include a picture viewer
(little television) along with the cd. listen carefully
while watching the pictures on the screen, as this is beyond
anything you can imagine !"

Yes, it's like a miniature television. The 3" cd comes in a
little jewelry box type thing too.

lobate hymen [anat.]--Hymen lobatus

funny how everyone here would point a finger at any "pop"
performer and say "what a marketing scheme" blahblahblah

but its fine when vsnares does it

"its important to have standards"

Good point. It's a bit cooler than the kind of dross you get
with pop cds though, but still, fair criticism.

woow, that looks really cool! I once had one of those little
tv's, only that one had pictures of holland in it (bought it
in a souvenir-giftsthop).

I just love little gadgets like that :-) marketing scheme or
not, i love 'em! I mean sure it will make the cd sell more
copies... but it's just cool :-D Everyone who buys it will
be very happy with it. Think of it as a gift to the fans
;-)

Don't really mind when a pop-performer does it either. I
think it's awesome if any artist tries to do a little more
than just put a jewelcase around his cd.

(i wonder if i will ever be able to find it though... i hope
so).

I'll agree with surrounded on this one. I don't particularly
care if a pop act (or rather their marketing department)
makes their CD stand out a bit. In fact I wish more artists
would make the extra effort. There are only so many
single-sided-folded-in-half inserts I can take. RDJ
mentioned himself that he would have preferred a sweet
little digipack release for drukQs, but the budget wouldn't
stretch to it.

What annoys me is when grasping marketing people re-release
already available records with an extra track..."for the
fans". Almost as bad as ltd. or Japanese imports with bonus
guff on them.

yeah it better than just a cd case - but i like ideas like
global goon's - where the cradle of history LP has a hinge
on the back of it so you can stand it up like a pic frame

more affordable...just when i get something like that - im
less taken by the music - and more concerned w/ keeping it
sealed and selling it down the line for a heightened price

im a bastard

if i were him, or boc (in the case of twoism) i would have
kept all the records to myself (ourselves in boc's case) and
made that $1,000 per record off ebay

'stead of some little shit grabber (like me) making all the
dough

"i love the dough...more than you know"
- notorious big

"bling"
- britney spears

seriously? Wow...
I had been wondering about this, are those supersimple
sleeves for artistic reasons or because of a limited budget.
Guess this anwsers it :-/

But still... druqks was a very hyped record and they
probably sold lots of it! Hard to imagine they
couldn't even afford some extra artwork :-/ (i would have
gladly paid a small amount more for it!)

"What annoys me is when grasping marketing people

"

hmpf, yes i hate that too :-( Extra tracks, bonus-discs...
it's all very nice but i prefer it when the first pressing
of an album gets these extra's! (so the people who buy it on
release (the fans!!!) profit from it.) And they can make
that limited if they want. If they repress the albums later,
they can do so without the extra's.

It's pretty obvious the way it happens now is just a way to
make the biggest fans buy the album twice :-/

I got the new Snares yesterday from Boomkat. It's amazing,
the viewer is wicked to look through when playing the track
but the track itself is what pleased me most when it arived!

the viewer thing (to come back to the real topic of this
thread) looks cool but the pictures (apart from one which is
v kewl) are just buildings with the "agafmvastayci" text
photoshop'ed onto them.

offline martinhm from York (United Kingdom) on 2002-11-21 09:56 [#00450540]

yeah, sorry to digress. the viewer thingy is very cool, but
I haven't had chance to listen to the track yet.

just in case anybody missed that interview, here's an
excerpt:

OK, you want to sell as much as possible, but you don't
want to release any singles,
apparantely there will be no video, you don't want any
pictures taken, you'll just do
3 Interviews worldwide and you don't want to tour. So that's
what you think of promotion?

"(laughs). Well, I made a few compromises. The CD is just
in a regular jewel case, and
it'll be pretty cheap. If it was for me, I would have
designed a nice digipack and
released it that way. But that would be too expensive and
you would lose too much money.
And if it also was for me, I wouldn't do any interviews and
promotion gigs at all.
The little things that I'm doing now is all that I'll do for
promotion."

The whole thing
