if you are under the age of 18
are you pissed at the state of music?
im asking cause i grew up with mtv, the great, the good and the ugly
and maybe the state of music in my opinion has turned to shit overall, is that just cause im getting old or is it the overall decline of our civilization ?

My favorite time for music was around 1987-92 or so, but I don't think there's a general decline since then. Maybe your ear hair just needs a good trimming.
Sorry, I'm 18+.

i dunno the state of music does kinda suck with the all the shitty rap and numetal shit.
but also, the underground stuff is getting more mainstream and we;re hearing alot of interesting production on some of these new rnb and rap and everything tracks
i dont know if that's good
i think the underground scene is pretty well right now though
lots of wicked new music
i dunno

I'm 30 and I don't give a crap about the state of music today. There's some utter shite pushed in your face if you watch TV and there's some top quality stuff, new and old, if you care to look for it. Folks can moan and gripe about how crap music is, but there's enough old stuff out there hidden away in obscure places to keep 'em wowed for 10 lifetimes. You'll be bored with music one day, then you'll discover something in your mates' dad's old school friend's record collection that stuns you even though it was recorded 20 years ago. For instance.

Yeah good call, whinging about the state of music is pointless, coz you're not gonna change it etc etc
Just listen to what you like, and try to enjoy what you don't and if you can't enjoy it, ignore it.
No need to go "omg omg pop sucks I'm gonna stab a raver, let's murder all teh rappers"
or anything. Not that anyone really does (well actually i've seen that shit be said but hey)

mtv used to be my favorite channel, but starting in about 1999 it began to corrupt. i think it's basically due to mtv's excessive attitude about safeguarding public opinion.
good thing there are plenty of options other than mtv out there to pursue, which i began to consider when i 1st got into electronic music at age 12.

Yes i am, i don't know why, it just seems so manufactured, no matter how much 'talent' the 'artists' have, it seems so fake and false, and half the time its pure shit.
Lets take a good (well, they are crap) example, S Club Junior, the pre-decessors to a band already falling apart. They are 10-11 and they are talking about partying and falling in love, this is encouraging girls that age to dress up like tarts and for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
In this case its rape.

Plus, i can't see whats is so brilliant about mainstream stuff, every so often a band actually gets into the charts worth listening to (Zero-7 is a good example, i like them). And i can't see what is so great about people like Ja Rule. I can't hear what he is saying half the time.
Im glad i just don't pay attention to chart music much anymore. I have found a lot more musical satisfaction with Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Boards of Canada, and all the other Rephlex/Warp/Planet-mu all stars

Hit the nail on the head, Murray. Seeing as I am actually under 18, I might as well contribute. The state of music is, well, fine as far as I see it. Nothing really changes as far as mainstream artists selling more than talented ones, and I'm not holding my breath for that to change any time soon. Oh well. As long as I have my individuality. They can go rot for all I care. AHAHAHAHA....and so on and so forth.
As for the state of just pop music, well that's getting worse of course, from what I've seen on TV, 30 years ago almost all bands played instruments and wrote their own songs, there was a sense of effort, which helps me get along which any music. Nowadays all you need is to be semi-attractive i.e. not ugly, and you can give it shot, make a million of one cheesey record exposing the idiocy and narrow-mindedness of our youth and then live of what they make. One hit wonders aren't musicians; they're hit and miss money makers.
