rapper who sing

who are your favorite emcees who can actually sing? here
are my two: mos def and pharoahe monch. damn they're
amazing.

i'm not talking about tone while rapping (no matter how
strong or smooth their voice is), i mean when they're
singing hooks.

i also like andre 3000 (of outkast)'s choruses. but unlike
mos and maybe pharoahe, he couldn't carry a whole song
without rapping. for me the verdict's still out on eminem
and nas. sometimes they just sound terrible on the hook.
sometimes they come through though.

i know this topic's gonna get like 1, 2 replies tops, but
try to open your mind and put away the bullshit and admit
you listen to some hip-hop and actually realize it when
there's some singing during the choruses.

I don't know if this is what you mean, but I really like Mos
on Rock'n'Roll, and also on the track Umi Says.

yea that's what i'm talking about.. when vocalists who
usually rap decide to sing instead (whether for a whole song
or a chorus). good choices.

Point me to some tracks by other MCs tits -- cos I really
dug those tracks :) Apart from Mos, I don't think I've heard
rappers sing (apart from *ahem* Slick Rick on Mona Lisa
hehe)

ah kool keith, i like his singing too, it's charming in a
way. he can't sing but unlike nas, he's at least interesting
to listen to when he sings.

Nobody mentioned Jurassic-5, they can sing like hell at
points

Pharrell is great as well

Andre 3000 can't sing very well, imo. The beginning of "The
Whold World" makes me want to put a bullet through my head.

"the whole world" isn't a good example of his singing..
check the full albums for better examples. lyrically i think
stankonia is weaker than my fave of theirs, aquemini, but
the singing by andre is stronger.

how could i leave out gift of gab (emcee in blackalicious)?
he sings GREAT.

puffy can't sing though. someone take his mic away. and

abstract rude. His album mood pieces is a damn good album,
a lot of the songs sound more like singing than rapping.
You can listen to sound clips at www.sandboxautomatic.com

Tie between Cee-Lo and Andre 3000

cee-lo's such a great singer, i can't remember the last time
i heard him rap though! i guess he just found his calling. i
saw him live on the smokin grooves tour this summer, he puts
on an energetic show for a big dude. his little girl or boy
(i forget) brought him a bottle of liquor or champagne after
his set finished.

yeah, he hasn't rapped much since the Goodie Mob days...
speaking of which, when, if ever, are they gonna come out
with some new shit... world party was kind of a
dissapointment, I was expecting something else, something
better

cee-lo's trashed world party in interviews.. i dunno what's
going on w/ the group. did you buy the dungeon family album?
i liked that one a lot, not many people bought it tho.

more... mabey too much from it

it wasn't very cohesive but i didn't expect as much.. it's a
good way to tide fans over till the next outkast & goodie
mob releases and see if the other affiliated artists are any
good
