His Royal Highness Prince Claus of the Netherlands has
passed away today. He was Queen Beatrix's husband. A moment
of silence.....

He was ill for quite some time so at least he doesn't have
to suffer anymore... I didn't really know him but he seemed
like a nice person.

well i'm no anarchist but this will not give me sleepless
nights. Its sad if a person dies, but prince Claus was no
god. He may have been a nice person, but so are millions of
other people who die everyday.

that sounded kinda cheesy, didnt it?

I agree. He was a nice man, and the most interesting of the
Dutch royal family by far.. BUT I didn't have any
connection with him..

it was pretty scary how they announced it. I was watching
television when suddenly the program gets interrupted with a
voice saying: "now there will be a special newsprogramme",
fade to black.
in the 10 seconds till the news started I was thinking "WAR!
THERE'S A WAR!".. ha ha.

for fuck sake ,.are you guys serious?

especially dutchies,....for the whole fucking day they've
blocked normal Dutch TV programming to inform us about his
death. Countless reruns of the same shit over and over.

He died yes,.RIP condolensces to his family ,.the end. Why
spend the rest off the evening on him.

Like they really care,.fuck that ,.it's just politically
correctness that they even spend time on it.

and to think I don't even watch tv ,...

fucking hypocrits

didnt you know thats how the world works these days? dead
people are the shit now. TV has gotten so mindbogglingly
awful that they need things like this to wake people up.

Sad but true, just like the entire LPF political situation.
Its a good laugh for people who dont want to watch big
brother.

It's not like I felt personally connected to him in any way
or something, but it's always feels kinda unreal if you see
on TV a famous person has died (at least for me).

I was serious in my earlier comment. I agree though on the
ridiculous amount of tv-coverage on it. we live in a
monarchy - this is one of the consequences.

fun thing was to see how the public tv-stations switched to
the news, and the commercial stations all dropped to their
knees at different intervals..

Any sort of Royalty is a curiosity these days.

All of Canada stopped this evening as Queen Elizabeth, in
part of her celebration of her Golden Jubilee, dropped the
opening puck in a Vancouver Canuck's hockey game...

A hockey game...

Wayne Gretzky was only barely behind her as she walked out
onto the ice. Two figures of Royalty (at least in Canada).

Guess who got the bigger applause...

...she seemed amused.

i know what you mean :) those tv programmers were itching to
finally broadcast the documentaries on his life and death
they had lingering around for such a long time

even claus himself mocked the media for all but pronouncing
him dead for years on end.

that said, he was a great guy, humorous till the end.
respect is due. we'll mis him

Yes, but our is the only REAL monarchy. The others are
merely pale imitations.

Phiz: he was a comedian wasn't he? Or an actor? He looked
like he had thyroid trouble with them eyes.

What does REAL monarchy mean in this context? Having a
German family rule your country? Is that it?

was that pretender, Saint Diana.

The royal family has almost no political power. They're like
popstars who make things special when attending events("oh
look: there's the queen!"), they vistit other countries to
strengthen relations between countries. They can't have our
heads removed or anything :)
