Does anyone here own a gun? If so what kind do you have and what do you use it for?
I've always been fascinated with guns, more specifically those used in the first two world wars.
At securityarms.com you can basically find tons of photos of guns, some are fairly interesting. I'm really interested in Ceska Zbrojovka, a Czech company that mainly does pistols for practice shooting competitions.

I have no problems with guns, but I dont think that they should be sold. I think they should only be issued to military and gun clubs. the last thing we need is more guns on the streets, even when people buy them for protection.

"anybody against the lawful owning of guns is a fool. "
i dont get people who are for guns... theres NO reason to have them other than making u feel like a big man... and that it fills ur childish need for handling something powerful and cool looking
the fact is guns are designed to kill people thats their job oh ya.. target practice at the range is SOOOOOO much fun... im sure america's gun-toting population can find other ways to amuse themselves that dont also cause thousands of deaths per year
and dont give me that "guns dont kill people, people kill people" bullshit
guns make it a LOT easier for people to kill each other so in the heat of an argument u reach for ur gun and BOOM ......... conflict resolved
so if people killed people, and guns had nothing to do with it... then maybe everyone should have their own bombs... dont worry, the murder rate wouldn't go up...
after all, people kill people not bombs

I'm not for prohibition. I am very much for freedom. It is not the law that I question, because we should be able to question ourselves and take responsibility without having the gov babysit us. What bothers me is the reason one would want a gun in the first place. Living in fear? Insecurity? Guns are designed for murder and to make a hobby out of murerous weapons is sick. If you need protection, why not tone it down? A electric phaser of some sort will render an attacker unable to harm you and you don't have to take their life, though I people who live in fear tend to bring instances upon theirself.
Hunting is another issue. I advocate hunting, because I feel better about the eating of animals that at least had a cahnce at a good natural life rather than raising and enslaving animals for our diet. But shouldn't hunting be done with respect and strictly as a means of subsistence? No body gives respect to the spirit of the animal, but rather they coinsider hunting a sport! Think about it. Hunting as a sport = killing animals as a means of entertainment. Murder for fun.
I just think that most people don't take guns, hunting and violence in general very seriously. These sick attitudes are the reasons we have to have government control over these things. Did our mothers give us freedom when we display irresponsible behavior? No, and we are forced to let our governments lay restrictions on our freedoms because people can't take responsibility for their self and think about issues seriously.
PLEASE, tell me: Why guns?

goddamn I WANT the government to babysit you. 6 Billion people on the planet, you can't possibly expect them all to be able to own a gun, Ã nd still behave.
If the gov. would (successfully!) babysit everyone, there would be no need for owning a gun in the first place.

Meho: I don't like those sad twats who just own swords like some people own guns and flail them randomly. I fenced for several years and never found it neccessary to own my own sword.
I like the butterfly swords because of the need to coordinate them takes a lot of skill and the art of having to watch two blades rather tha one. I especially like one manouever where you twirl, distracting the opponent with a high elbow to the face (causing him to raise his hand) leaving his stomach exposed to the other blade which is hidden against the flat of your back.
Quernstone: I know who you're on about. It was always fashionable to have facial scars from duel in German universities circa 1900.

What, do you mean you wished you had fenced?
As to the recreation thing- yes those people are a bit odd. I'd like to go to a medieval one and challenge some of them to a "proper" sword fight. None of this knight in armour bollocks.
Incidentally, the lighter types of sword, epe, foil, rapier &etc. came into use as the invention of gunpowder had stopped people wearing armour and it became all about speed and skill rather than aimless hacking.

Have you noticed how "Team leaders" seldom actually "lead" and tend to push from the back instead. Driving you forward like cattle rather than leading a charge?
Meho: Yeah, I'd hate to see swords outlawed like pistols have been just because some sad 30 year old gimp who still lives with his parents goes ojn a killing spree with a imitation samuri sword he bought in a martial arts store.
The problem with swords compared to knives, nunchukas etc. is that it is hard to disarm someone (even a relative novice) if you yourself are unarmed.
If someone attacked me with knife I'd be confident I could disarm them. But a sword? I'm not so sure- I'd probably run away...

once again its left u to the bobster to support the other side.
Guns are great! they make deaths quick- i would much rather be killed quick with a gun then have a knife shoved into me, and those electric catle prod things are supposedly more painful than being shot in the arm or whatever. If it wasnt for guns, the average person would have little hope of defending them self from an attacker (where the heck do they sell ninja swords these days?) and because they can be used at a distance they can detter without having to shoot- just showing a gun wil scare someone off from coming closer. also, if there were no guns on tv then many films would be a lot more boring.
i am not a trigger-happy gun enthusiast. i dont get 'high' through using a gun. i agree that guns should not be sold to maniacs or people who arent able to use them properly, but the average person should at least have the right and the choice to own and use a gun. there not just used for killing people, they prevent crime.

Quernstone::. so whos to say it goes differently? How many people do you know, I doubt you know them all that dont or do have guns and have or havent been robbed in their house, or more? raped? killed? attempted murders and rapes? If you take peoples guns away, like I said before those left with them are going to have much more of an advantage with them. Think about it.
Why is this a one level issue of, "I dont like guns, therefore there is no need" rather that or you dont adress the need or warrant for a firearm, so why even bother posting on this topic?
We as a world society, have guns or similar weapons and always will, how many countries would be totally for not having guns? not 1 Im willing to bet, and even if there were some, others would either not do it for the fact that they want protection or be able to devestate the rest of the non gun world.
It goes beyond, some ass breaking into your "flat" to try and take some worthless cheap crap, and protecting your body mind and spirit, not to mention possesions.
In the end, if your a not bothered by this or a pansy [or both?] it just comes down to if your comfordable when you sleep at night.. I know iam.

You are not a "pansy" for not wanting a gun. It tends to be insecure people who need a gun to feel powerful.
Jonesy: The way to not get your car nicked is to make it undesirable. Look at my car- £700 value, it looks crap, it *looks* as though it's in bad condition and it has an alarm and crooklock and I park it in front of my house. Who's going to knick that when there are far faster, nicer more saleable cars with less security around?

Its not like it doesnt happen, I dunno but better them than me.
