pretty self explanitory....
For me it's a tie between Ghost in the Shell, and Ninja Scroll.
Also, on a side note, can anyone here confirm or deny that there is an SAW2 ad. in one of the macross movies?

Akira is good - I have noticed that there is a DVD release now, here in the UK. I might buy it. My other favourite Anime include the Cyberpunk Collection, and the Street Fighter II V series.

I've only ever seen about half of Akira. I got bored. I do love the animation however and would appreciate any recommendations. Is there anything with good acting?
Seriously, are there any that have a story to match the animation?

Sexual undertones? Well, yes of course, but Anime is aimed at a more mature audience isn't it Jonesy? When was the last time you saw Disney animals having sex with each other??? (Lets not go down that road though....)

I see what you mean Chri5py - it's probably catogorised purely on the basis of the way it is draw not by the content.
The characters in Transformers though, the humans, don't have the 'anime' styling though do they? They dont have the big eyes - like in other cartoons. Pokemon, I'd say was Anime, because there it is clear to see from the character design.

The first time I saw an anime cartoon when I was younger ... I was shocked! You just don't expect to see 'those kind of goings on' in cartoons....well I didn't anyway. And the violence portrayed in them is no different really from the kind of violence seen in Hollywood blockbuster films....
I really think there is a misconception that animation/cartoons are just for kids, and it isn't!

One of my mates (I should see him again in Bristol) used to be able to draw anime really well. One of my girlfriend's mates, a japanese guy can did an anime picture of her before. He did some band's album cover too, anime charactetures of all the band members, very cool.

About of the big eyes doesnt the disney characters have big eyes too? But manga and anime characters dont always have to have those big eyes to be manga its about the artists style, manga are comic-books drawn in japan, anime are movie animations made in japan thats it.
