What are the differences (aside from the obvious. Cause
from what I hear TV in the UK is a lot better, though I
could be wrong...

uh.. have u noticed that most of the BEST music in many
different genres (both present and past) seems to come
exclusively out of the uk?

AND the make Aston-Martins..:) (aston martin vanquish v-12
is the nicest car ever)

No it isnt! Well... in my opinion its far from. The UK may
have some better music, but not all, lots of good music
comes from all over the world. The only one to be able to
FULLY answer this question would be someone that lived in
both the UK and the USA for some time....

well ok maybe i was exagerating a little.. yes im sure
theres good music all over the world
but uk is still ahead of just about any other individual
country i think (definity in terms of rock and
electronica...)

"Cause

you shouldn't watch tv.
or at least don't believe anything that comes from tv.

i have no opinion though.

"lots of good music
comes from all over the world"

sorry i'm quoting all of you here.

offline REFLEX from Edmonton, Alberta (Canada) on 2002-02-06 21:29 [#00081571]

Thats ok. Simply put, most countries are good or better for
reasons that others dont have. So it would all be relative.

The Macleran F-2 coming out....
Lambourghini Diablos

Back to it though.. uh.... TV? I watch maybe like 3 tv
shows. So I dont know much about that.

most of the music genre's seem to go go to US and end up
tinged with rock...Jazz Fusion,Industrial, Electronica,
Techno you name it..and that's not necessarily a good thing
Rock is big in US, especially in the vast expanse that is
the middle America..

offline fat kaimo from Finland on 2002-02-06 21:35 [#00081578]

sorry this Duble0Syx was talking about tv and i was being
stupid.

Yes. Rock is big in the US, but there are obviously so many
underground scenes, or not so popular stuff that im sure we
would all enjoy.

yes, if I was to list my top 10, or even 20 probably, each
album would be from someone from the UK... great great music
comes from there, and I want to live there... :)

that's the good thing about US...
it soo big :)
there are several layers even to the underground...
yeah plenty of cool, nasty, noisy stuff goes on, but once
again it is usually wrapped around rock structures...
Canada's the place for higher tech cutting edge stuff :)
ps: I was actually surprised to hear that Richard Devine's
hard cold, harsh, stuff comes out of sun drenched Miami..I
lived in Miami/Ft Lauderdale for 2 years..
never inspired anything like that in me (hehehe

Soon as I get out of college, or maybe even FOR college for
a semester or two, I'm going to England, and I ain't coming
back. I have Brit in my blood, I don't belong over here.

Having watched American and British TV, I can say (sorry if
this sounds prejudiced) that British TV is better, not only
in terms of quality of shows, but general production values
and editing.

I'd say that Britain and the U.S. are fairly equal
musically, although a few years ago your music charts had
far better songs in them.

I think in terms of literature we are fairly equal, or
possibly the US has the edge: Dalton Trumbo and Chuck
Palahuick AND Henry Miller -who have we got (had)?
Shakespeare, who is vastly overated.

I was considering moving to America post university to work
in my Cousin's company, because the quality of living is so
much higher. I don't feel so strongly about doing it now
though, I think I'd prefer to live in southern france for a
bit and get a job as a remote network administrator in about
10 yrs. time.

Ophecks: Mail me when your thinking about coming over to
Britain.

creative output in the UK especially in videogaming.

UK is obviously putting out some seriously good stuff but
all the good hip-hop comes from the states. And Japan has
been and still is putting out the best in video gaming. The
goods from all corners of the Earth!

I'd don't think I'd want to live in japan. I find japanese
people to be too work obssessed (no offence intended) and I
don't think I'd fit into their culture.

Although their food, Art and Videogames are very good.

I'd like to go to England next year, but it looks like I'll
be stuck here one more year... this is still my first year
of college, so hopefully I might go over for my third.

And after I graduate, I'm POSITIVE I'm going over there, I
have to! I really hate North America.

BTW Ceri, I'm listening to Shaokahn right now. ;-)

Electro/HipHop came from U.S.
House from Chicago I think
Techno from Detroit I think

Drum&Bass came from Bristol, UK

Electronica comes from everywhere doesn't it?

The commercial pop coming out of the UK now and for the last
12 years is utter shite!!
I miss the days when Duran Duran, Human League and Depeche
Mode were in the charts

you forget where it all began...
um what's Brighton like? I am really obsessed with all the
artists and music comin out of no-future studios...creepy
dark powerful and totally wigged out..what kinda city is
Brighton?
and btw..most of the shite clutterin UK pop charts seems to
be comin out of Ireland and US aint it?

USA. But most of my television content is from the USA. So
the two countries are equal for me.

There's a great I find appealing about the UK, but I'm not
sure if I would want to live there...same thing with Japan.
I suppose I couldn't really judge without first having spent
some time there just to scope things out.

Also, I think people have a tendency to look at distant and
interesting places to live and to some degree romanticize
them while forgetting that with a little digging, good can
be found most places. Of course, sometimes a change of
scenery is excactly what a person needs, so I suppose I'm
just rambling at this point.

Brighton is cool (not a city though). I lived there 91-95
while at uni. It has the highest number of clubs except for
London in the sounth of England. and some of those were
underground too.
Saw loads of good DJs... Dave Clarke, Richie Hawtin, Sven
Vath, Christian Vogel etc

I also discovered Aphex while down there

good "black" music comes from America, or is inspired by
American music.

good "white" music comes from Britain, or is inspired by
music.

good "latino" music comes from...hell, i don't know shit
about latino music.

happy hardcore is mostly pretty bad wherever it comes from.

good cichlids come from africa and central and south
america.

massively over-simplified cliches but enough truth to argue
over.

... i know, the way you are supposed to talk on
messageboards is this sucks, that sucks, you suck,
everything i have decided to like is perfectly good...end of
arguement. blahblahblah.

people that suck come from all of the whole world.
