Sir, you have come to this website with less than 75 posts
over the course of 2 years, and acted arrogant and
argumentative. Grounds for getting flamed in practically any
messageboard. Whatever you want to prove, at least be adult
enought to take your well deserved bitch slaps like someone
who has reached puberty.

Awww. Don't go picking on the synthesizer.

I really do like the SY series synthesizers, they are
underrated. I just think this MDV character has bad
delivery.

yeah the sy99 seems to be mostly used for lazy newage these
days. but good news is they're well available and cheap, got
mine for 425 euro perfect condition with flightcase.

and taxidermist, what did i do wrong with delivery?
justed wanted to correct my earlyer posts here, didn't want
anybody to go looking for the synth used to make saw2 and
stumble upon my old posts and think it's a cs80 or
prophet3000.
as far as jaroen "flaming" i couldnt't care less

while on the subject of synths richard d james used for
albums..
i've compared the front cover of drukqs to various pictures
on the internet, and i (yes, me pigster) have concluded that
drukqs was made using a piano.
you heard it hear from me first, so even though i'm not
really saying asking for any real praise, i am kind of half
expecting you all to tell me how awesome i am.
proof!

Wow, I didn't realise that they were that cheap, I was
thinking more in the region of 700 euros for a mint
condition one- that's pretty sweet.

Its just a bit argumentative. You are calling everyone who
dissagrees with you wrong, without providing anything more
than your word for evidence. And you haven't even put in
enough time here to be able to use your credability as
leverage in your end of the discussion. Its just kind of
disrespectfull and arogant, pardon my spelling.

Seriously. I don't see digital filters making many of the
pads on Saw 2. Its 12db, I agree with you there, but they
don't have the same stranglehold on the audio as digital
filters of that era seems to.

You can get them in canada even cheaper.

Yeah, he bought a roland midi grand for that album.

i wish i had money to even consider looking at prices of
synths and gear. but you know me. i have an ass, and i plan
on spending abit more of life sitting it, as opposed to
working for the moneys.

oh but the sy99 has great filters. probably indeed the best
for that time.
resonance isn't that convincing, or atleast very different
from an analogue filter, but without selfoscilating they're
great.

didn't mean to come off as arrogant (and don't think i'm an
arrogant person in life) but am pretty convinced of me being
right here :)
but indeed pretty pointless to go on right now about why it
is the sy99 on saw2, i'll post samples in a week or so so
you can judge with your ears.

Perhaps. Not saying the filters will sound bad. Just saying
the modelling technology back then (or now for that matter)
is really sufficient to give that kind of a warm glow.

yes i know what you mean i was really surprised too!
but i think it's probably the flaws that actually make it so
alive.
i had a prophet 3000 and loaded it with simial orchestral
samples and put it through the analogue filters at 12db/oct
but it was less "alive / organic" then when i do this on the
sy99.
this is about thesame voice structure, prophet 3000 having
analogue filters per voice, sy999 having digital filters per
voice.

do post samples when you have things set up.
this is the.. 3rd? synth you're 100% certain rdj used for
saw2.
itd be interesting if you could post mp3s of all 3 synths
sounding like saw2, you know.. for a laugh.

it is a known fact that he used reaktor for saw II, then
traveled back in time and released the record.

the thing still sounds futuristic even tho, he´s probably
recording it as we speak.

Maybe instead of arguing pointlessly, we should just sit,
relax, turn on SAW II and smoke a joint.
Or a peace pipe, whatever you want. Just shut up already and
enjoy good music instead of ruining it with your negative
moods, idiots.

mdv, Ive had a few people tell me the p 3000's stock sound
disks are pretty much exactly like most of the sounds on
Saw2. Like the lichen pad and the orchestral oboes. etc.
With minor tweaking. Maybe he sent it through amps too. I
think the reverb is digital on saw2. It sounds a bit grainy.
What is the p3 selling for, btw.? Im curious to hear one.

Who are you on AH mdv?

offline mdv from Zwolle (Netherlands, The) on 2007-01-30 22:51 [#02041693]
Points: 167 Status: Regular

Yes the p3000's sounds are indeed very similar. not stock
but after you tweak the envelopes and filters and layer
them. but i guess more sounds are similar. many of the pad
sounds are orchestral sounds and things like flutes layered,
enveloped and filtered. i might be the one responsible for
some people thinking the p3000 was used for saw2, atleast on
synthforum (my nickname there is mdv too). although i got
the suggestion it was used for saw2 myself on analogue
heaven.
i was convinced for a while he used the p3000 for some of
the sounds on saw2 but used it for basic sounds then put
through some magic gear or something. but apparently not the
case, i don't have to put anything through magic gear with
the sy99, it just sounds exactly thesame as on saw2.
can't remember what i bought and sold the p3000 for, but
it's expensive and only so because it's rare imho, so not
the best buy you can do.

i'm pretty sure there are sounds made with the ms-20 on
sawII, i could give audio exemples but i can't be arsed for
now

there's many distorted percussive sounds and there is also
one track which has this weird noise drone/pad that is 100%
ms-20
disc 2 track 10 i think
the background sound that is there throughout the whole
track, detuned vco's with a bit of fm + filtering, the
timbre is exactly the same with my ms20
the trick is to gently play with the tuning of the second
vco to bring it in and off of tune, that's what gives the
kind of elastic, slowing/accelrating pitch which ressemble
digital fm sound

the percussion in radiator also i'm pretty convinced it's
just white noise and filtering with the ms20

all imo of course !

lots of the tracks on this were slowed down on tape
bear that in mind when you listen next, it will change how
you hear it
i haven't tried speeding it up yet because frankly realising
that changed my perception of it enough... i don't wanna
fiddle to hear how they were made.
(Also trax like Pancake Lizard ... they're slowed down)

some prick tried to sell it recently on eBay for 20grand,
