Having a discusion over at watmm... but I want your guys advice as well... can pot lead to permanent insanity? I ask, because when ever I smoke, I just go nuts. I scream alot, and ramble on about complete jibberish, and just generally, I feel like this is what insanity feels like. My friends just laugh... but do you think it could lead to something bad? I only smoke like 3, sometimes 4 times a month... but everytime I smoke, its like I get more nutso. thoughts? |

This is nothing new. Remember the black n white film "reefer madness" I think, yes it can cause problems for some people, but put in perspective, I think alcohol can do more damage... I mean how many mad homeless people are stoners rather than alcoholics? |

Yeah there is rare cases of people kind of dissapering into a psychosis. I know a guy who used to be a really funny and cool person who now can't even remember his own name. Sad. Maybe it is dangerous if you alredy have mental problems ? i don't know. |

It is proven that in people with a pre disposition to depression it can trigger attacks. It is also known to trigger psychosis on occasions, but other than the risk of lung related disease I don't think there are any recognised long term mental effects. Obviously with any drug people can suffer from side effects, but every one talks shit when they are smoking weed :D |

Probably not...I know loads of people who go strange when they smoke weed. One of my mates goes through an entire exercise routine. Makes a cup of tea...sits down, starts talking about shit and falls to sleep. Same every single time |

Do you have diagnosed clinical depression or "i don't feel to happy today" kind of depression? If it is clinical you should stay the fuck away from weed. |

pot can make you paranoid, which can make you go mad if you don;t controll it, but that goes for pretty much most drugs I know a girl who won't leave the house on her own cause she gets so stressed out, all due to pot. I get noidy sometimes too ! I hate going to the bathroom on my own cause I spin myself out. I know it's just me though, which is where the line is drawn. imo opinion that research ain't quite conclusive, just so happens that weed is a common factor associated with schizophrenia etc. ... lots of other variables not accounted for .. that aside - it is worth keepin in mind. schizophrenia isn't usually that pleasant an illness :/ |

Basically, if you feel it is not doing you any good, stop. It's not for everyone. A couple of my friends don't smoke pot any more coz they found the negative effects outweighed the positive. They don't have an issue with me smoking with them there and I respect them for stopping. |

A much more reliable way to go insane is to avoid food and sleep. I think you can pemanently damage your neurochemistry, or at least trigger an underlying problem, by doing this. I've watched it happen several times. Of course not eating or sleeping could be a symptom more than a cause... IANAMD In any case you should avoid marijuana.
