i know this sounds a funny, but i have no idea how this
whole "dj'ing" works. what is it all about. how does for
example aphex twin make this cool live stages. i saw on a
few pictures that he had a laptop. is he making the whole
music live ? what programs does he use ?

could ayone waste some time and explain it to me ?

What you do is, you buy two laptops, and place each one on a
turntable, and press on the 'on' button so they begin to
spin, and music magically comes out!

The faster the spin, the louder the music.

Truly magnificent.

It was funny watching aphex live

totaly computer nerd =oD

I love that man

I guess 2 decks, with some xclusive "dub plates" and a
laptop with either some more of yer own tracks or some kind
of software where you can mix tunes live.

i think dj'ing is really pointless nowadays when you can
just compose it on the computer then play it on a cd

i think steinberg have a new program out that lets you mix
all your mp3s on your hard drive
with on screen crossfader and bpm match i will have to check
it out but am off to bed now. night night:)

look mr.SADIST(yo tak w ogóle!)- mr.afx is very clever and
i bet that he uses some home made programs computer and 2
turntables with a special lp fulled with samples for
scratching and so... he plays some part from computer and
some from lp then he mixes it and viola he has a song
done.... look for a record of aphex twin called words and
music, about djing he says something like that: "the way i
do live stuff vveries a lot!. It depands on the tracks that
i wanna play, difrent tracks require diffrent setups and the
whole process is FUCKING comlicated" - cytat z pamiêci:)

But really good DJs will change their set according to the
way the crowd behave/react- a "pre burnt" set isn't as
good, for this reason.

I'm DJing in Bristol this Thursday for a mate's rock
society. Only small, 40-50 people in a pokey club, but it'll
be fun.

A mixture of Vinyl and CDs (hate using CDs, but I don't have
enough rock music on vinyl...) and a CD of remixes/rarities
burnt from MP3. I wish there was a sort of DJ library where
you could just borrow vinyl you need for one off gigs.

I'd use traktor, but my PC is far too unstable. Oh for a
pair of G4 i-books...

I did a set at a house party. The drum and bass DJ and MC
had a break so I mixed Rephlex, Warp, Gabber and Acid. I was
really shit because I was too stoned but the music more then
made up for it to the people who did run away from the weird
guy hiding behind the decks making a noise. After that the
drum and bass MC and DJ kicked back in. Was fucking cool.

It's fast to use if you have a well sorted collection of
royalty free samples, but for actual composition it is
pretty basic. I think the only reason I'd use it anymore (I
started using it years ago) would be to knock something up
very quickly.

playing at a student union is cool, we are hoping to get not
just vinyl/CD setup in there, but a mac and a kaos pad and
stuff too, should be fun. :)

You can use a midi controller pad (like the kaoss pad) or a
knob-box to control it.

NeoExmnist: It's a real time FX box as well as a midi
controller. The FX are a bit gash compared to what you can
do on a PC and it's far too Bassy, especially the sampler.
Still it's good for cheap and cheerful live remixes.
