Arch Carrier is rather dramatic...

...don't you think? If it were ever to be used in a
movie... it would have to be during a really dramatic
scene! Something like the end of the world at the very
least!

That sad melody (that sounds like it's being played by
violins or some other instrument like that) would have been
enough to make this an incredibly beautiful track...

But on top of that they also added that nervous and
brilliant rhythm full of highpitched little sounds... it's
awesome! It just keeps on going and actually sounds a
litte... optimistic. The contrast between that and the sad
melody is just... ah... i can't put it into words :-)

Awesome awesome track though! I adore it!

hm... something like: very very sad. I think that melody
sounds so very sad (in a beautiful way), but that word
wasn't strong enough... so i said "dramatic", which means
VERY SAD ;-)

well I thought you meant that but I wanted to make sure....
dramatic is not always sad you know... but thats why I
asked, just to make sure... well and I have to tell you that
I dont feel it sad you know... but I am going ot give it a
listen right now to make up my mind

many of yokotas tracks are kind of the same way
they sound very sad-but the really make you feel good hehe,
contradiction but it is true :)

"well and I have to tell you that
I dont feel it sad you know.
"

:-)

I always thought that was the beauty of art! (all art... so
also music, and especially music as abstract as
autechre).... everyone can give his or her own meaning to
it. To me it might sound sad, to you it might sound happy
and cheerful. I think everyone who owns LP5 will listen to
it in a different way, and to everyone it will mean
something else.

well you pointed me to it ;-) So it wasn't really my choice.
But nevertheless, thanks! I can't wait to hear the album
completely, instead of just samples.

"they sound very sad-but the really make you feel good
hehe, contradiction but it is true :)
"

i know exactly what you mean! Most of my favorite music has
that effect on me... hehe... so it sounds great! I hope it
won't be too difficult to find.

aye the knight rider track! one of my early ae faves and it
still is. shame is, i know it so well i can hum every high
pitched note along all the way thru... still, good
programming and a good intro to the fatalistic drane2

haha, 75 % of my albums many people would find depressive
(actually they do hehe), but once you get into it, it is
beautiful and not depressive at all-on the contrary, it
makes you feel better

same for me & my record-collection :-)

I don't find sad music depressing at all... i find it
comforting. Even when sometimes it brings tears to my eyes,
it's not because i feel sad... but just overwhelmed with the
beaty.

"and i dont think sakura will be difficult to find i got
it here, so surely you'll get it there ;)
"

yeah but you probably ordered it? Or did you actually buy it
in a slovenian recordstore??

lol, the nightrider-track?! :-p I hope that association
won't get stuck in my head next time i listen to it!
Hehe...

I haven't quite gotten into Drane2 yet... but i've only had
LP5 for 3 days so... :-)

and it was unintentional, i bought for no real reason
i listened to it after quite a while and i was just shocked
when i did :)

ooooh! so! what's your first impressions? i got it 2 years
ago together with ep7, so the 2 of them got cluttered a bit
in my mind's eye :) i do remember i immediately fell for
rae, though... some of the tracks took ages for me to enjoy

surrounded:

now listening to it....
I feel like two people are talking, discussing maybe, one of
them is complaining to the other... yes it could be sad...
maybe a sad story, of broken hearts... I think she is angry
more than sad, she is telling him/she that she cant stand it
no more... he cant almost talk to defend himself, wait now
he is answering... man tough argue...

hehe... i got it together with Tri Repetae, Garbage and
Anvil Vapre ;-) I wonder how i will look back on these
releases in two years time.

But yeah... i really like some of it (especially Arch
Carrier), and other things i can't really get into yet. I
don't dislike any of the songs... but i just have a feeling
that i can't really understand them yet :-)

Rae... no... that one didn't particularly strike me i
think... atleast right now i can't remember what it sounds
like.

I was quite impressed with Fold4, Wrap5... i love how for a
fraction of a second it sounds like it's going to be a
really fast song... but then it immediately slows down, and
as a result, the entire song feels like it's in slowmotion
:-) neat!

wow... you have a really vivid imagination! :-) I love how
you see an entire story behind it... to me it's always much
more vague.

But yeah... the song changes halfway through... when the
"sad" melody dissapears, i guess that is the point you
describe as: "wait now he is answering..."... :-)

Next time i listen to it, i will remember your story behind
it... and see if i can hear it too.

haha yeah fold4 wrap5 gave me that same impression :) great
stuff... don;'t want to put more bad taste associations in
your head, but that song always somehow reminds of the theme
of the 8 uur journaal :) :)

you'll like rae, but those are a lot of cd's to listen to :D

the music inside my veins telling me secret and forgotten
happenings

that's the same sort of vision i have of the second song off
boards of canada's hi scores :) a sort of drunk dramatic
dialogue in a busy pub with a snooker table (you can hear
the cues :D) it's obviously a girl in deep deep misery.
drinking :)

ha!

lol, STOP IT! :-p
Thanks to you LP5 will now sound to me like an evening in
front of the television ;-)

"but those are a lot of cd's to listen to :D"

hehe... and those were only the autechre ones :-p I also got
On by Aphex Twin and Rest Proof Clockwork by Plaid (the
latter is awesome! So far my favourite out of these 6 cd's
:-)).

Actually i prefer to buy cd's one at a time... so you can
slowly get to know them... but it was cheaper to order a
whole bunch at the same time ;-)

It's wicked. It makes me think of an army of undead people,
rotting corpses coming to attack the living. That can only
be a good thing.

Arch Carrier was the track that got me into Autechre, it's
brilliant.

In fact, Arch carrier is probably responsible for getting me
into IDM/electronica.

In no way I think Arch Carrier is sad, but yeah, it's
dramatic. I think of some sci-fi scene about some giant
spacecraft, flying over our heads, well perhaps the title is
the master for this one... Arch Carrier... It's dramatic and
sci-fi already!

...some Dune imagery?

I don't think its dramatic though.

it has a very powerful drive, almost breathless - yes.

can you call ANY track with drive dramatic? isn't it the
same thing? I mean, drive is a kind of dramaticity, or eh?

no. I don't think you can.

a completely repetitive techno track can be very driven,
though not dramatic in any way.
