You need to change. Some wont read CD-Rs.

do you mean your cd-player doesn't read correctly, or do you mean cd-r's that aren't burned correctly..?
anyway, yes, this can happen. some cd-players are quite the sensitive little prats. you could try a different type of cd-r or maybe a new cd-player, yeah.. :(
