damn... that word is very hard to describe. I think i understand what it means... but it's hard to desribe. I wish i could think of a dutch translation for you ;-) But it doesn't really exist in dutch i guess...
kinda stupid, goofy, corny, silly...
When something is meant to be serious, but you just have to laugh because it's so ridiculous.. and the best thing is that the people doing it don't know they're being so ridiculous. That is cheesy! :-p
Infomercials are very cheesy i think! Especially the way they are synchronised on dutch television... "maar dat is geweldig mike!"... also think of someone like Bob Ross. And actually a whole lot of things from the 80's are really cheesy when you look back at them now.
Hope that helps :-)

Trent Reznor is cheesy. So overbearing and just... aghghgh... such an awesome musician, but he makes it tough for me to listen to his lyrics and singing, I just don't like too much gloom. And I never liked his voice, there's just something annoying about it sometimes...
You can be cheesy in a good way, though... Kiss (as much as I dislike them), The Monkees, AC/DC, stuff like that. Fun stuff that takes little to no brains to digest, but they fulfill a strange human need.

actually i agree on trent reznor.
I love nin very much, but his lyrics are terrible and almost ridiculously pessimistic. Especially after the release of The Fragile. I was hoping for some progress... but he's still whining about about the same old things (nothing in particular actually... it's always "it" or "something" that's bothering him... never anything concrete).
His singing doesn't bother me though... except on "the great below" (which is otherwise one of my favourite nin-songs)... he just breaths so loud inbetween the sentences there... it really gets on my nerves.

nono... that part rules :-p It gives me goosebumps everytime!
I mean his heavy breathing inbetween the lines...
staring at the sea -hhhhh- will she come? -hhhhhhh- is there hope for me -hhhhhhhhh- after all is said and done -hhhhhhh- anything at any price -hhhhh- all of this for you -hhhhhhh- all the spoils of a wasted life -hhhhhhh- all of this for you -hhhhhh-
something like that... it sounds like he just ran a marathon, and then rushed in the studio to sing these lyrics.

A lot of people say that music that sounds dated, or old, music that is silly, or goofy, the sounds used in a song usually make people go, ooo that cheesy synth line.... or whatever
Fuck that though. I dig on cheesy music, good music is good music.
And its good to have fun and laugh a bit now and then, it never hurts.

Sometimes it can be quite ironic and intentional - Astrobotnia 2 and DMX Krew's stuff would be good examples.
Hot Butter - Popcorn gets a 7 on the cheesy scale from me.
