Just wanted to say that my girlfriend and I are hoping to
put together an album of covers and reconstructions of some
of our favourite songs

It'll probably take us a while to do it, because I have to
use my mates computer & equipment at the moment because I'm
broke & unemployed and can't get my own yet, but as soon as
I do, it'll be full steam ahead

Does anyone here think it's a bad idea, or would anyone here
be interested in a copy of it?

Any input would be muchly appreciated

thanks everyone

oscillik

making music is rarely a bad idea.

lol

nope not at all

well, the kind of artists that we'll be
covering/reconstructing are:

Garbage (quite a few of their stuff from Version 2.0)
NIN
The Cure

thinking about doing some other stuff too, maybe an REM
track, and Voodoo Lady by Ween

we're gonna try and make them sound as different as possible

good idea, it's fun to fuck up with your fav songs!
For example i did an insane d&b remix of "Out of Space",
it's really nice to hear one of those classics in antoher
shape

oscillik: yeah, it does sound mad. I also made a somelike
industrial remix o a great bigbeat track...even more mad!!!
But i won't put them on the net:
illegal sampling is an expensive hobby...

Hey, you reminded me of a very fine remix i did of
Cuckoo....yeah! With my own samples.. Maybe i will put that
one on the web tomorrow or something, if you like!

actually, 'suck' by NIN is already a cover of a pigface song
(co-written with trent reznor)...

as long as you don't profit from the sampling, they can't
touch you man

i studied copyright in college, and they can only sue you if
you either

a) make money from the recording
or
b) try to get a record deal using the recording as a demo

i mean, don't take my word for it, but what we were taught
is what i just said

and you can legally sample 4 notes of a song without needing
permission

sounds layered over 1 keyboard and then make melodies with
them...somewhat like the preparedpiano idea...yeah
possibillities, possibilities.

Im leaving now, having a class.
