Just came back from the cd store with U-Ziq's Lunatic
Harness. I'm really pleased I got it cause it's s'posed to
be an import here.

So, what do you guys think of him?

Some stuff is very good, some is very bad. Royal Astronomy?
What a piece of garbage (imo). But Lunatic Harness and Tango
bla blah ( cant remember the name) are both really good.

Lunatic Harness was the only one they had so (luckily) that
was the album I bought. Glad it's supposed to be good.

I'm not dissing it! I'm saying I'm glad it's supposed to be
really good, cause that was the only one the store had!

Bah.

haha, i immediatley thought of the time some one asked if
gary moscheles (one of mike p.'s aliases) is any good, and
then mike p. posted on the board and said no

and i was the only one who thought it was hilarious

salsa with mesquite is the only thing i own by him, but it's
pretty rank. i know his other stuff should be waaay better.

all uziq ive ever heard has been great, he has a really neat
melody style, sort of has little unexpected blibs here and
there

only problem is that sometimes he has crap level control (ie
certain sounds are waaay too loud or quiet...like in the
beatboxing track on lunatic harness...the beatboxing is
WAAAAY too loud and the 808 is too quiet)

and sometimes is sounds kind fo unclean
but yeah it's totally dope still

i picked up said album at dadas for $20

i was amazed to find it so fucking cheap

it's not his best, but i like it still.

i really cant see why people make difference between lunatic
harness and royal astronomy-these two are very alike, both
very cool and so is tango n vectif

tango 'n vectif 2001 reissue is really a must,i also have
bluff limbo which is very good as well but not as original
as tango, they share lots of aspects, bluff seems to have a
darker mood anyway.i have only these two,but if the rest of
his discography is like this, mike p is really great

still love it. Never got around to listening to any of his
other stuff though, maybe I should...

in a word 'YES'. I too have the original tango n vectif and
love that, but dont have many other songs of his, but yeah
its good stuff. hes done some wicked remixes too:) some of
the production could be a little better tho, but upon
reading the back of tango n vectif it says he used a betamax
video to record sounds, so not cd quality sampling, but not
exactly lofi either, kinda mid-fi???? i dunno!(sounds like a
good use for old betamaxs tho)

The way I see it, the ''big four'' are Aphex Twin,
Squarepusher, BOC, and Autechre... WATMM agrees... with Mike
P. being very, very good but not in that really elite group.
He's better than pretty much anyone else, though.

offline promo from United Kingdom on 2003-01-06 09:15 [#00503637]

No way Ophecks. Mike P is in the big group definitely. I'd
rate him above BOC and Autechre but only just.

Mike P rules forever. Awesome massive sounds that guy knows
how to make a tune period.

Kid Spatula, Jake Slazenger, Mu-Zig take your pick. Mike P
is the man.

µ-ziq is teh awesome. I like Lunatic Harness, Braceyourself
ep, Royal Astronomy, Kid Spatula - Full Sunken Breaks, Tango
n Vectif and his Rude ass tinker track are all really great.
I think all his releases are great, except for the Urmur
Bile Trax, Vols. 1 & 2. I dont like that much.

Eh, I can't really argue with that, he's pretty awesome. I
just don't think he stands out as much as the other four.
They're MY big four, anyway.

mike p hardly fighting(and probably winning) with
squarepusher. i don't question afx and ae

Mike P is nowhere near being an important electronic artist.

He's done one strong album (Tango N'Vectif)

He releases every single track he writes. He has no quality

control, and thus his albums are full of bad jokes and
silliness. He's a nerd and he spends most of his time on
these chatrooms instead of being an artist.
And he's never played live (he plays cassette tapes and
mimes on stage).

Lunatic Harness is one of the greatest 'idm' albums of all
time and everyone who considers themselves a fan of the
'genre' owe it to themselves to get it

What b/s, a rather impartial are we? I assume that you have
access to Mike's entire collection of music that he has ever
produced, and have been to all his live shows?

Because that's odd, when he opened for BJORK in Chicago as a
matter of fact he was playing live and then started dancing
after he finished mixing what he needed to.

I dont think plaid or u-ziq should be in the big 4 but i
dont think boc or squarepusher should be either. I mean i
like boc a whole lot but it doesnt seem like theyve released
enough material to probe to be on the top. (it should be
aphex and autechre as top two only.

and i dont like plaid or uziq at all so to answer the
original question "uziq any good" not too good but thats my
opinion, better than plaid if that means anything.
