Therapy Session #1

ok, I'm now officially seeing a psychologist. His name is
Alan, and he looks like a psychologist.

Thin beard, slight man with good posture. He is warm and
inviting yet professional and introspective.

His carpet is industrial green, which is slightly
frightening, but yeah.

Ok, I was super nervous, that waiting room was so scary. I
was like, oh, THIS is the where all the nut jobs come eh?

But yeah, we talked for an hour, he basically outlined my
problems with goals, studying, focusing, etc, and we have a
clear pathway to run starting tommorow, when we have session
#2.

I will have a third session this week, and then go back to
school, where more reports will be posted.

--------------------
I was going to say all the shit I said to him, and vent, but
I'm relativly calm and don't think it would be that
interesting anyway.

This turned into me reporting that I am getting professional
help....oh well, I am, and I'm not axious about it :D

the reason people go to psychologists is because they've
been told that their thoughts are not in line i.e.
irrational with todays western thinking. the most important
thing is to learn to be aware of what and why you are
thinking, and to challenge and rectify this thinking.

i guess you'll be thinking that what you think is 'normal'
which is perfectly natural for anybody. what his job is is
to chalenge your irrational thoughts and put you back on the
right track. if you're young (and i suspect you are) then
its best this happens now because its so much easier if
you're younger).

don't see it as brainwashning, see it as a massive learing
experience, just like if you were actually paying attention
at school and doing your homework. you'd be surprised how
many people are in your position ro have been.

don't be scared, embace the situation and the benefits of
later life will only be evident once you get older. only
then will you experience the gains.

good luck.

:)

What's the price on that?

A psycologist is like a prostitute, only you pay them to
listen.

kinda like a girlfriend.

everything sounds right in your mind
but your mind is clouded

I appreciate your thoughts and ideas.

I'm trying to have this guy help me jump start the ideas in
my brain and make my body do the work. I have to study,
ahve to focus, and now it's time to learn how....:-/

elusive- I's pretty pricey. I'll be straight forward and
tell you I am paying ~$125/hour

Session #2 is tommorow, and I this is where I am going to
start learnign strategies to help myself.

i was wondering if it was a planned strategy i.e. planned 12
or 24 or whatever number of appointments?

i'd always be sceptical about anyone who was on a wager.
sorry that's the case but i guess thats he case in the whole
of america. in england its much different. and i guess
clinical psychology is aswell.

technically it is

CBT is usually a 2 month program. I was encouraged by my
doctor to get to a point using professionals, that I could
effectivly start to self medicate myself.

ie continue therapy for a month or two, and then hopefully
be at a point where some books and stuff could continue my
focus on the gains made in therapy.

------------
I see your point about the wage though, people in therapy
for their whole lives, i think, are missing the point

I was thinking at the start of this topic, ''yeah, I should
go see a psychologist! I need some help!'', but then I saw
the $125 an hour price tag... now I think I'll be content to
be psychotic.

going back for another session in 1/2 hour, another $125
lighter I'll be, but we get into the meat of it today.

yeah!
