Ogg Vorbis = WOWIE ZOWIE!!!!

I just Ogged a track off my Ennio Morricone CD and I'm
extremely impressed. At quality setting 6 (average 192k
rate) it's indistinguishable from the CD, and not much
larger than a 128k MP3 would be.

And it encoded in like 1/10 the time that Lame would have
taken.

And when you drop a file on the fish, the fish he spin,
wheeeee!

Go here and get the OggDropXP if you're on windows.

Now comes the real test, a Jan Jelinek track, with lots of
tiny subtle staticky clicky noises. Will the fish remove
this "noise"?

Latest news: Ogg Vorbis is harmful for your hearing!

..Just kidding.

heh yeah it's even more dangerous than mp3 because it's open
source!

Jelinek: at quality 6, indistinguishable from the CD.

Well fuck my shit.

Now the final test, the driller killer of listening tests: a
death metal track. If this algorithm can do justice to
Cryptopsy at just 192k, I'm going to start disregarding
MP3s.

Okay, the Ogg of Cryptopsy's Crown of Horns is pretty damn
close to the CD, so much so that I have to flip back and
forth and concentrate to hear the difference.

And that's at average bitrate of 192. An MP3 of death metal
at that bitrate would sound like ass.

At 256 it is of course indistinguishable from the CD. And
it's free, patent free, open source and much much faster
than Lame.

The new champion, Ogg Vorbis!

Damn it! I already ripped all my good CDs into MP3 format!
If only I knew this before... I blame God.
