there are two versions of this album, with different tracks
and different versions of the same tracks...

first version is:
01.ELYSIAN FEELS
02.THE MELLO HIPPO DISCO SHOW
03.GOODBYE SKY (REPRISE)
04.OSHO
05.THE GALAXIAL PHARMACEUTICAL
06.YES MY BROTHER
07.GO TELL IT TO THE TREES EGGHEAD
08.DIVINITY
09.GURU SONG
10.HER TONGUE IS LIKE A JELLYFISH
11.MEADOWS
12.HIGH TIDE ON THE SEA OF FLESH
13.GOODBYE SKY

another version is:
01.THE LOVERS
02.THE ISNESS
03.THE MELLO HIPPO DISCO SHOW
04.GOODBYE SKY (REPRISE)
05.ELYSIAN FEELS
06.GO TELL IT TO THE TREES EGGHEAD
07.DIVINITY
08.GURU SONG
09.OSHO
10.HER TONGUE IS LIKE A JELLYFISH
11.MEADOWS
12.HIGH TIDE ON THE SEA OF FLESH
13.THE GALAXIAL PHARMACEUTICAL

according to the galaxial pharmaceutical, the first version is better
(ending with 'goodbye sky'), but i wouldn't go with just one
advice, besides i would have to order it in import (so more
expensive)... do you have any advice on this if you know
both versions?

my college radio station has the 1st version (actually
that's a misnomer; there are at least 20 versions, 3 or 4 of
which are out there in the public). i think i'll steal it
cos 1) i hate the station, and 2) no one would notice its
absence. i think the official version is fine how it is, but
i am curious to hear the different versions. the version of
"mello hippo.." on ross' (webmaster's) version of the album
is now on the "mello.." 6-track EP.

the promo is completely different to the original. also some
legit copies were pressed with the promo tracks by accident.
also the vinyl tracklisting is different yet again.

the misprint has 2 mislabeled songs (songs NOT meant for the
album, but not labeled as such); it's not the same as the
early promo cd which.. fuck, earth already said it. right
then.

I've heard some of this record. I have to say its the worst
FSOL I've heard. But I don't want to get into all the
reasons 'cause I've been there before on Planet-Mu.

i agree. i couldn't believe i was listening to FSOL....in
fact, i'm still convinced that the album are made by someone
else. it's fackin' horrible.

Then I guess you'll like the rest of the album.

Thats the big danger with things like this. If your trying
to get more fans and sell more records by doing something
(potentially more commercial sounding) then you are in
danger of losing your core fans. To be honest I really don't
know what on earth they were trying to do with this record.
Its certainly not my thing.

To be honest I like FSOL. I've only got one CD of theirs but
they don't seem to be active enough or I'm not aware of them
enough for me to say to myself oh right must go out and get
the latest FSOL record. Thats said they've got something new
on Rephlex which looks interesting.

I really don't think they made this record to get more fans.

...maybe same thing will happen with autechre's upcoming
album?

i wrote a 5 page article on why i like this article, if
anyone is REALLY interested in what makes this album great.
otherwise, judge by your own ear: if that shit don't knock
then what else matters? i like it a lot, but tastes vary. i
don't think this was pandering to FSOL fans or to pop fans;
this is just what gaz and brian felt like making. keep in
mind that it was released under their ALIAS (a.a.) not their
main name, so it's not even completely indicative of where
their electronic/dance music is headed. do you think they
only came up w/ this many songs in the last 6 years? they
have a lot more for us, we just have to be patient.

right now i rank them:
1. dead cities
2. isdn
2. isness (tied)
that's all i own (tho i want the rest). what i've heard from
the 3 other full lengths (counting the first a.a.) they seem
great as well. but it's so obvious that their music is ever
changing, and when they take a 6 year break between albums
instead of a 6 month break, you shouldn't expect things to
pick up right where they left off.
