Are we alone in the universe?

the universe is so damn vast, how can we ever find out?

Our current technology that is used to detect life would
take a billion light years to cover any of the universe, and
then a billion years to get back to us. We'll all be long
gone.

How can we ever find out without pure 100% random ass luck?

There HAS to be. Whoever or whatever put us here couldn't
have just put us here ALONE. Or maybe we really are so damn
special and unique. But there has to be something, somewhere
out there.

Thinking about space gives me headaches, it just blows my
mind like nothing else... it's fucking incredible. And the
only hope we have to make contact with aliens is if they're
WAY more advanced than us, because we can't do shit out
there yet.

why? I really don't see the logic in this. because we exist,
there MUST also be aliens? how does that figure?
people always say this, but their reasoning is kind of hazy
- the same kind of hazy when people say they don't believe
in god, but do believe in "a higher power".

imo, our planet is a freak coincident. that said, I won't
say that aliens absolutely not exist. maybe.

we arent alone for sure because universe is unlimited thats
why there is an unlimited chance of meeting alien life forms
- simple mathematics......

Well there doesn't HAVE to be, but I just find it hard to
believe that in such a vast place, there's just us. But it's
true that we seem like such a freak occurance... all the
factors necessary for life came together on earth, and
nowhere else that we know of, so obviously this is a
''lucky'' planet... but fuck, it's not like we've seen very
much of the universe! They very well may be other planets
that ''lucked out'' that we're not aware of, or capable of
finding yet.

But there may not. Bah!

but hasn't it been proven that the universe is not unlimited
only unbelievably large..?

there is even an estimation of all objects in the universe.

NASA made this calculation once, coming up with staggering
results for possibilities of intelligent life in outerspace.
They beared in mind all the things that could possibly go
wrong, for example meteors, world wars, natural disasters on
the planet itself etc, the ability for a staring
civilization to evolve beyond to what we have now (as far as
you can call that a civilization). Subtracted that from the
known and possible planets that have similar circumstances
as our planet, and they still ended up with huge numbers for
thriving alien civilizations.
It would be totally stupid and even egocentric for us humans
to think that we are alone and very special.

how the fuck should I know?

I'm just saying I really do NOT know. when everybody starts
stating that there surely must be aliens, I think thats a
big jump.

i take my pride in knowing that my life & purpose on this
earth is meaningless. our life is so small considering what
is outside of our world we live in... it is rather funny to
me to consider that anything besides ourselves gives a damn
about communicating with us.

Heh heh. That could be a line right out of Douglas Adams,
but he'd call it utterly, unbelievably, skull crackingly
large.

Anyhoo, now that they're finding bacteria living at thermal
vents on the sea floor meabolizing sulphur and even 200 feet
beneath the rock of the deepest sea floor, I'm starting to
think life is cheap and easy. We should take a closer look
at Europa.

Whether or not this life often has the misfortune to evolve
into forms that are self aware (i.e., miserable), who knows.
