Okay this is the best topic I could come up with so be
nice.

Does anyone have any stories about what really fucked with
mentally as a kid? Whether it be the Bogeyman or red glowing
eyes outside your window let's hear it!

When lying in my bed I saw shadows, silhouettes on the wall.

Really scared me, didnt dare to look towards the light to
see if it was really there.
So I got as deep as possible under the sheets. (like that
would help) but it made me feel safe.

cats, humans, insects, animals, vegetables, minerals.

Yeah I think most kids go through that under the sheet
thing. I would never sleep with my front to the wall in case
something came and got me.

i had this reoccuring vision... maybe it was a dream, but
everything was as it is in my bedroom. i always thought it
was real. at night these two men with elusive animal-like
masks would set up at the foot of bed and start a camp fire.
they would mumble things. i would hide under my blanket
and sleep as close to the headboard as possible, but they
would slowly pull my blanket down to torment me. all no
long i would sit and pull my blanket up to my face with my
eyes peering out. everytime i would forget about it the
next morning and wouldn't remember until they returned,
which could have been somewhere between 20 and 80 times. i
didn't fully remember this until years later.

I was always afraid of bridges. Even now if there's traffic
and I have to stop on a bride I get a sense of panic. And I
would always hear strange things at night time, like I could
hear someone else breathing in my room. And one time I felt
like someone touched my neck, and I got very very freaked
out.

heights, me and the parents went on a trip to
Penticton(somewhere in Canada) and we were just cruisin
along then BOOM theres this big ass steep hill on the side
of this like 2000 foot mountain thing, it was so scary. I
was like laying on the ground i was so scared. im terribly
afraid of heights

we were driving along this little road that gradually went
down and on the left side you could see off and we were like
2000 feet up, man, never again.

I hate heights too, but not as much as you. Spiders, for as
long as I can remember, are my biggest fear.

the movie theater in Downtown Seattle at the big mall is
scary too, you have to go to like the 6th floor then go up
this escalator(sp) thats right next to the window so you can
see down all 6 floors, the escalator goes up like 2 more
floors to the theater

There's a hotel here in St Louie, and the elevator walls are
all glass, and they face the outside of the building, and so
as you're going up the twenty some odd floors you can see
out all..the way...down...to ...the streets...below. Frappin
hecka scary

Yeah I had the bridges thing too.
When I cross that bridge now. There's just a little sense of
inconvenience, no more freaking out.

Yeah, whats up with the silhouettes?!?!
i had them to.. but in the ceiling.
the shadows sort of crawled in the ceiling and i hid myself
under my sheets. They came when i least expected them to and
i still dont know if it was reality or not.

I kind of remember them talking to me, and i knew i had to
hide.

nightmares, being in a train doing a neverlasting loop...
also walking on the front of walls with strange posters i
was afraid looking at...
and blood i mean operations, chirurgical stuffs... and that
still disturbs me now..

This is my theory:
I had, on the wall I was looking at, one dark vertical
stroke. When you look at a dark spot in a light area, your
eyes try to correct the contrast.
This gives dark spots in your vision (sorry bout the
english)
(you know those pictures with spots you have to look at 2
minutes, and when you look at a white wall you see jezus?)
I think When I moved my eyes after focussing on the wall,
the shade of the dark piece that was in my eyes just moved
along the wall, making me think it were silhouettes.
I hope you understand what I mean...

Trains you say.
I had this returning nightmare about being stuck on the
rails, and this old steam engine with 3 lights (two low and
1 high) just came speeding at me and I was frozen on the
track.
Just before it hit me I would wake up.

glass_eater:yeah me too..
i had these sort of really psycho nightmares as a little
kid.
i reckon they were the worst.
like walking in fucking small spaces, and being held by
someone or something trying to break free.. i were also
really horrified by dolls.
i still have this reoccuring dream in which i am in a house
with my family, and theres a doll of some kind there.. and i
suddenly realize that its moving. and i try to tell the
others but they wont listen

i've had the same sort of nightmare kind of dream like that,
where i would wake up to an empty house. it wasn't so much
a nightmare as just a dream filled with a lot of nervous
tension and stuff.. i'd slowly walk around the house,
shouting hello, with beads of sweat forming on my
forehead...then all of a sudden my family would pull into
the driveway and all would be well...

but i'm afraid of coming home to an empty house in real life
too..

Heh you sound like Indiana Jones.

Anyway I'm not talking about nightmares...I'm talking about
stuff that scared you as a kid.
