I just watched Blade Runner...luckily after reading Do
Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? I enjoyed the book MUCH
more than the movie...

Would it have made any difference if I hadn't watched the
directors cut?

I prefer the original edit with the Harrison Ford
voice-overs and the happier ending.

Neither version is much like the book, though it's odd how
some of the dialogue, like the scene with the owl and the
voight-kampff test, is almost word for word.

The Director's Cut is the way the film was originally
intended to be as it makes more sense. I do miss the
voice-overs though. Of course the book is way better but
it's still a damn good film.
PKD himself said upon seing advance previews that it was as
if the effects artists had seen into his mind !

It makes more sense... in that it implies more strongly that
Deckard is a replicant? That did get lost in the original
edition.

What is it with eyes in that movie? It starts with a
blinking eye, the test involves magnifying the eyes, the
replicant eyes glow in the dark, the old scientist tells the
replicants "I made your eyes", Pris paints a raccoon mask
over her eyes, Rutger Hauer pushes his thumbs into the eyes
of Tyrell...

The book is a long way from the film storywise....

ps...Future Noir: The Making of Bladerunner is totally
recommended...nearly 500 pages so you can imagine the sheer
detail & love of the film.story that's gone into it....By
Paul M Simmon....

As for whether Deckard is a replicant....

hehe... I ain't gonna say....just think a bit on that
Unicorn dream sequence in the directors cut....

oh yeah....Ever considered how closely the ending (driving
thru the forest etc...) looks so much like The Shining....

...that cause it is the same footage....spare shots given to
Ridley by Kubrik....

The Shining, eh? Interesting! Yes, I had noticed the
similarity of the shots.

The unicorn dream together with what Gaff leaves for Deckard
is a strong hint.

Have you seen this site? I was disappointed that there
wasn't much about the eye theme in the faq...

not sure about this re: BR....but the eye is generally seen
as the "door to the soul"...makes sense in terms of the
story...

"The unicorn dream together with what Gaff leaves for
Deckard is a strong hint."...indeed...

Also, all replicants have shiny eyes....as does Deckard in
one shot...another hint...

But like all the best films, shit don't get spelled to
ya....so no real 100% answer to this one......
