What do you say to someone that says avant garde music
(say classical) is just random noises and unstructuredness?

You must give him a fish. You must drink slowly a glass of
water and shoot the person standing next to him.

Hmm, most people when talking about MUSIC in general, are
refering to pop music, so their opionin doesnt bear much
value

if people think music must be structured than they will be
limited to mostly boring and unoriginal music.

what it all boils down to MUSIC CAN NOT be
"unstructured".... it's like saying you have a building, but
no architechture.... see what i'm saying?

music is emotion... plain and simple

all that this so called, "avant garde" music is, is a
completely different emotion & sound structure, similar to
the way an architect thinks of a building.

a friend of mine was baggin on experimental, avant garde,
noise music and then the next month once he finds about how
the flaming lips dedicated their album to one of the guys
from the boredoms all of a sudden he understood and
respected noise... i say if they dont understand dont
bother, either they will come around to it or just be
ignorant wads

thats what I meant. to have music is ti imply structure.

"music is emotion..."

nah. music is a lot of sounds arranged in a certain (or
maybe uncertain) way.

music can be experienced in an emotional way, yes, but in
itself it is not emotional.

music can only exist inside the realms of an instrument, and
an instrument is anything altered or unaltered by a human's
thought.... which is experienced.... sound is experienced
when manipulating instruments, then you get emotion...
what's happening in the present or what's reflected....
EMOTION
