Yeah I know there is Soulseek, but lately I've been having
huge speed-related problems. I don't like downloading mp3's
at 0.8 k/s.

So the question would be : Is there any other alternative
where I can find good electronic music? Just like Soulseek
is supposed to be.

it only gets slower and the selection fewer from my
experience..
Audiogalaxy: out of the question
Morpheus: worthless
kazaa: insultingly bad
slsk: best bet I'm afraid

The speed mostly depends on the speed of the user that
you're downloading from.

some of the other networks have multisource-downloading but
the electronic music-content isn't as good as SoulSeek's

winmx is quite good, but ONLY if you have broadband and are
online most of your life, as the best things are qued to
hell and back.

When I try to download a file off someone who seemingly has
60k/s of bandwidth, I still get a download speef of around
0.5 - 1.0 k/s. And after a while I get FAILED.

Argh.

Btw, what about a Direct Connect hub dedicated to IDM et al
(for this mb community) ? I think it would be a very good
idea...

Anyone?

probably still depends on the person you're downloading
from.. you can change the max. upload speed..

winmx is far more stable than slsk, but qrtr is right - it's
become so popular that everything is queued up to the
eyeballs

i'm quite happy just using those two, but i used to love
audiogalaxy. ahhhh the days...

Ohh, I miss Audiogalaxy. It had EVERYTHING, never failed. I
hated the interface, but it was a bottomless pit of
glorious, wonderful piracy. Sigh.

Well that sounds tasty :) Luxury selection or cheap ASDA
tin? I hear those Safeway ones make quite a clang.

We already have a private opennap server that members of
this message board can use. I sent you an email with some
information.

I think setting up a public file sharing server is of
limited use - it's best if the community tries to use an
existing service. At the moment that's Soulseek, for good or
for worse.
