can you skate around copyright laws by not pressing this on
cd?

I dont know ?

I cant figuere out why µ hasnt gotten busted for this. But
I think, or at least hope. That they have the permission of
the label that released the origional song. That would be my
best explaination. Maybe slodgechops can help us out here
with some info?

i was hoping splodge would answer! pity! then i would urge
him to regail us with stories about getting caught by
artists who end up hearing the remixes. you know, i bet mc
hammer said mu-ziq's remix was "real proper!" and i bet that
little minx christina aguilera is just filling the planet mu
office with steamy love letters to that young hunk
bit_meddler!

seriously though, i think by putting the tracks on limited
vinyl they're somehow able to avoid modern day copyright
laws. maybe not legally, but tactically (with so few copies
actually printed it's unlikely criminal 1 or 2 will end up
in the hands of someone at a major label). or hey, maybe
it's all a farce and they're not "criminals" after all and
they paid a hefty fee. let's hope we get some funny stories
after splodge finishes his coffee.

i know eminem would have a shit fit if he heard his song
remixed and he didn't get a dime, which leads me to believe
that they either paid or are more under the radar than i
thought..

i remember people discussing this issue on the planet-mu
board when the shitmix came out. i think they could get
legally sued, but no one would actually go through the
effort of suing planet-mu for this matter. the # of
pressings are too insignificant, and imo, the money spent
for the whole court thing would be more costly than the
money they'd get by winning or something...

true, since they'd typically demand a % of the profits,
right? it's not like de la soul sampling the turtles. what's
20% of $1000, divided by 6? hehe.

I heard about people altering one molecule or so, somehow,
in the composition of some sort of food product that has a
copyright to avoid any trouble.

the answer is simple. It is illegal and they have no
copyright clearance. They have the balls to put it out.
They could get sued but are too small an operation for
anyone to give a damn. See also Kid 606's "action packed
mentalist brings the fucking jams" None of the artists
sampled get a dime. Mike is not gonna come disclose info
that could be used against him in a court of law. case
closed

that's a very good point about why he didn't (and SHOULDN'T)
answer. i hadn't even thought of it from that perspective. i
definitely wouldn't want to get him in any legal trouble so
i'm glad he didn't reply, although i bet there are still
some funny stories that will have to remain untold.
