record sound good....you need a good amp, some decent
monitors too

You don't need monitors and an amp! That's the point
of monitors...

Ah sorry, I thought one of the definitions of a monitor was
that it was pre-amped. I've been spending too long dreaming
of mackies ;)

heh

yeah, monitors are either active or passive

just like those crappy little personal cd player external
speakers!

you can get a pair of crappy labtec passive speakers

or a pair of sony crappy active ones!

lol

What is it that makes monitors different to speakers then?
What's the actual definition?

offline unabomber from Palma de Mallorca (Spain) on 2002-11-14 05:01 [#00441445]

monitors are more accurate, flat response.
speakers usually colorize more the sound, not flat.
that's one.

one good turn-table deserves another

all hands on decks!

Ah, the characteristic "flatline" frequency response of good
monitors?

Thinking about it, why would people want really
expensive "speakers"(£6000+)?

Surely a £1500 set of monitors would give more accurate
playback? Are they just for the type of person who likes
"warmth" etc. (ie distortion ;) ) added to their music?

i guess so yeah

you've got a point there!!!!!

i guess it's because most hi-fi enthusiasts are used to
hearing names like sony or whatever, and they're only gonna
research into hi-fi equipment.....most of the time you're
only paying for the brandname

they would all be better off buying a decent pair of
monitors

i think so anyways

Technics 1210

audiophile speakers (those expensive ones) sound awesome.
not flat at all (that would not be very musical) but
acuratedly compensed, equilibrated, etc (and with zero
distortion/warmth).

Ha ha ha! Pdx-2000s?

Just because something is popular, doesn't mean it's the
best. Look at chart music...

Anyone want to donate me a turntable? I'd go and pick one up
second-hand if I could find somewhere local that sells them.
