as i said some months ago,i was not happy with the idea of
a greatest hits by bjork...you know these are the sort of
things you could expect from u2 or lenny kravitz, not from
bjork.yet i was afraid to see her greatest peaking only 53th
position in the uk(to uk people:why do you hate bjork so
much?).anyway i prefer her turn back to the underground,i
don't want my fav artists to be known and appreciated by
everyone...

i think its about time she had a grreatest hits. and the
package is well done, they picked the rright songs its about
time people werre exposed to the beauty of Bjork.

Bjork has produced "hits" so I don't see how releasing a
compilation album with people's favourites should be a
problem... And besides I think her recordcompany made the
decision of releasing it

the rreason the CD will have flopped is because most of the
fan's Bjork is going to get, she has. She has been arround
long enough to get a following and we have all herr songs.
Some will get it forr the sake of getting it, a few will get
it to see what she's like, most won't toutch it eitherr coz
they have the songs or don't like herr.

the greatest hits is compiled by the fans, on the web site

the other greatest hits in her opinion are found on the
family tree...a 6 cd set...$50..ouch!

and it doesnt have anything we dont already have

best of-cd's are always a huge rip-off :-(
But as someone explained to me in the nirvana-thread, it's
usually the record-company and not the artist who arranges
releases like this.

My only wish is they wouldn't always include one or two new
tracks... aaaargh! Whoever started this tradition deserves a
thousand years of intense torture!

the greatest hits album actually has an unreleased track and
the family tree has some kukl songs. still, i'll wait until
they hit soulseek. i've bought plenty from that woman!
nothing wrong with the collection though.

some of those songs have been released as bsides ..remixed

i would buy the greatest hits and family trea just for the
sake of owning them....as the case in collectingi have all
the albums so nothing new to me in them

the kukl songs are b-sides? what singles? i know most of
the songs you can find, but i thought those were only found
on old kukl releases.

I dont see what the big problem is with greatest hits albums
(as some people on this board seem to...), sure they're
generally nothing *new* as such, but they are more often
than not a good overall cd to listen to anytime.. oh and
with most of the greatest hits I have here, they have a
bonus disc filled with b-sides or remixes.. so they DO have
new stuff. :)

i was a little put off by the fact that bjork was releasing
a single disc greatest hits collection at first too. but i
justify it now for 3 reasons:
1. cos of her newborn daughter i doubt she'll be releasing
another studio album for a few years
2. some people just won't buy her albums cos she has "too
many" and her songs are "too weird".. so this is a service
to those people who can't resist the hits
3. do you have any idea how MANY artists do best of comps?
some very very respectable artists do it. it's hard to
criticize bjork for doing it and then let other people off
the hook.

also, to clarify some things:
-the bogdan collabo ("who is it?") was recorded for
vespertine, it's just not released. it probably won't be
either cos apparently bogdan wanted too high a total % of
vespertine's sales (i think 10%?). i guess that means it
would've been the best song on the album. oh well. live
versions exist of the song but i'm sure they sound totally
different.
-family tree DOES contain unreleased music. besides the kukl
and sugarcubes tracks (all prev. released i think) it
contains tracks performed live w/ the brodsky quartet (never
commercially released) and early versions of several songs
that would later appear on albums or b-sides.
-i don't have enough $ for either family tree or the
greatest hits, but i might buy the "it's in our hands" (the
new song) cd single(s) if possible.
-i can't believe the royal opera house dvd (single disc!)
has a suggested retail price of $45. that MUST be a mistake.

bjork on greatest hits albums:
"I think, like with everything, there are a lot of bad
'Greatest Hits' albums and there are a lot of good ones.
Just like with everything, the percentage is: some are 10%
good and 90 % are rubbish. Although I still think it's
worth the risk to at least try. There are some 'Greatest
Hits' albums out there that I have loved, with music I am
not so familiar with. For example, I was twenty-five when I
found out that Marvin Gaye existed, I didn't know soul music
before that. I got some kind of singles collection or
'Greatest Hits' of his."

I think she did a wery good job selecting out the best
ones... But of course I also think she left out a few that
should definently have been there.

she didn't select them, as someone said before. bjork.com
voters picked.

Cradle of Filth had a best of? *laughs* I'm glad I stopped
listening to those boys. What type of black metal band has a
Best of? those things are for Elvis and the like IMO but
y'know..
