i feel guilty for making a borderline pointless topic, so:

what're everyone's favorite label samplers/compilations? i
just ordered quannum spectrum (dj shadow, blackalicious,
latryx, etc.) after putting it off for 3 years (oops) as
well as the schematic comp house of distraction. i wanted to
order cosmic forces of mu as well as the we are reasonable
people warp100 compilation but unfortunately neither are
apparently in print in the united states (bugger). i like
the braindance coincidence rephlex comp (very nice sampler
of artists i wasn't already familiar with like vulva and
vibert & simmons), dgc rarities (vintage dgc unreleased
tracks, i got it for like $2.50 used), lyricist lounge 2
(rawkus records), solesides greatest bumps (see: quannum),
and the warp 10+3 remixes comp. woo!

The cosmic forces of mu is by far the best "IDM" compalation
I have ever heard. I love it! Some killer tracks in there.
The tigerbeat6 meow012 was really good too, also a double
album. Rephlex's braindance compalation was nice too. But my
favorite compalation ever is something called... Black Fly's
, it has some old skool uberzone... and some nice goa/acid
club tracks. I highly suggest it if anyone can find it.
Quality album. But the mu album I got this year and it is
really good.

black fly.. is that a label? when were most of the tracks
made?

anyway, i don't think mike remembers me emailing him but
i've emailed before about the poor distro.. i also said i'd
love to do as much as i can to promote his label roster on
my show, but his distribution guy never contacted me.. oops.
oh well, i'm gonna still play the little mu stuff that i DO
have while they work on getting some u.s. distribution or at
least an online mail order system (not that i want to pay
for imports).

I found the album... its called: Black Fly's presents Club
Fly's, most of the tracks were make from 96 to 98.. top
notch stuff.

I wish the mu releases were more available in the U.S.... it
said on his site that the µ-allstars II LP wont be
availible in the US for a year.... WTF>? Something is wrong
with that....

oh .. probably been asked before somewhere .. but for the
sake of adding "content" to this thread :) .. is Battery
Operated vs Gescom (cdr) an official release - or where can
one get it ???

planet µ doesnt have a way of buying albums directly from
them yet... Mike said on his bbs that he was thinking of
developing something like warp mart.... so that he could
sell merchandise like sweatshirts and clothing as well....

yeah .. for some reason i thought I remembered being able to
buy stuff off mu directly - memory is a wonderful thing.

anyone bought stuff from opalmusic? cosmic forces is
going for £12sterling

Basically, you have to buy stuff when it comes out because
as a small label (unlike Warp) Planet mu cannot rely on US
shops keeping shelf space for releases, so they order only
what they can sell quickly - for a fast turnaround. If we
had US orders (from shops) we could supply our US
distributor with stock, but at the moment we have no
discernable demand. It's fine saying it to a messageboard or
to me, but I can't change the US sales/ordering situation,
you have to tell the US shops themselves, otherwise they'd
never know there is a demand for the label. And that's the
only thing that will make a difference. In fact the truth is
closer to the fact that there isn't really that much of a
demand compared to other (non-idm) labels, so for the shops
it's better to ignore your request and continue stocking
products they are sure have a guarenteed sales history.
Unfortunately we do not (sounds like a vicious circle
right?)..
