You good people have any recommendations for someone who
loves:

- Derek and Clive
- Brasseye
- Ali G

I'm sitting here in Canada and I need some new British
comedy.

The Fast Show, Alan Partridge, Monty Python (you've probably
heard of those) and lots more.

"coupling" is not good.. its overtly trying to be an
American sitcom. kind of emberassing to watch.

Yeh some of the League of Gentlemen sketches are pretty
disturbing!!
The acting is great though and scarily realistic - like the
'Legs Akimbo' acting group, I remember people like that
visiting my school years ago. (cringe) LoL

series III.. weird!!

having an abortion

i reckon the first series was better, watched parts of the

knowing me knowing you ( Alan Partridge )
The day today (chris morris )
The office (series one)

those 3 are classic & miles better than anything else
mentioned here... also probably quite easy to get hold of on
video/dvd cos they're all BBC.

BOTTOM & THE YOUNG ONES

offline danbrusca from Derbyshire (United Kingdom) on 2002-11-10 13:36 [#00435635]
Points: 4570 Status: Lurker

Classic comedy: The Young Ones, Fawlty Towers and any moment
in any episode of Only Fools & Horses where Trigger calls
Rodney 'Dave'.

More recent comedy: The Office is the most wonderfully
embarassing thing to watch, Brasseye and The Day To Day for
the genius that is Chris Morris, Absolutely Fabulous is
exactly that.

The first 2 series of The League Of Gentlemen are excellent
but I really though the third series was crap, save for the
autoerotic asphyxia scene which was inspired.

However, towering above all these is Alan Partridge as seen
in both Knowing Me, Knowing You and I'm Alan Partridge. He's
such a complete and nuanced creation that he almost comes
across as a real person, not merely another Steve Coogan
creation.

Incidentally, there's a new series of I'm Alan Partridge
starting tomorrow on BBC2 :D

RED DWARF - did they ever make an american version? i
remember they were threatenting to, only with different
actors

all time classic, i think everyone would agree. i've never
met anyone who didn't like it (bold statement).

Actually no, I think Red Dwarf is probably the most
overrated comedy ever made.

There's a thought, which is the more tedious, football or
Red Dwarf?

That's a hard one. I'm gonna go with football as it kinda
pervades the english culture more and there's a higher
likelihood of encountering it in every-day life.
