do i have to defrag the hard drive? and most importantly i want to get audio into and out of my mac whats the best audio interface about?

Re: Interface
M-Audio Quattro is meant to be pretty damn good (better than Duo) - for USB interface.
But it depends what quality/features you want. If you don't need a sound card, then the imic, by griffin (which is a usb-minijack converter) should do the job for getting audio into the computer?
defrag .. occasionally I guess? just like any other hard drive?

No probs.
Apparently the built in AudioCore soundcard on the new macs is meant to be pretty decent .. so i guess its a matter of how many ins and outs you want?

latency is really important warpphex, the quattro runs at very low latency, id check the specs for the iMic first if you wanna make music with it

ie lower latency = better - makes your audio program more responsive to knob turning/midi
