Hmm, I have a pretty good idea because I have listened to other similar artists of that time. Stockhausen did some similar stuff among other things...

Well, it is "classical" music in the sense that it's academy based music and music that wants to see itself of the extension of classical music tradition.
However, most of it sounds like noise to an untrained ear. He has covered so much ground in fifty-something yeasr og his career that no release you can hear does not grasp the entirity of his personality. Stuff like "Gruppen" is structured but insane sounding msucio for three orchestras, "Hymnen" is musique concrete that at times sounds like cut-up stuff a hip-hop DJ could do and at times like merzbow-influenced noise. "Aus der sieben tagen" series is a small ensemble free-improvisation (Stockhausen prefers to call it spontaneous composition) and it sounds by turns violent, menacing, meditative and plain boring...

Uh, dunno about that... Is there a Nobel prize for music? I think not.
He is an excentric old fucker that's for sure. He also got a lot of flak for his statement after the 9/11 world trade center thing last year.

Polar music prize
Founded by Stickan Andersson , man behind ABBA . It's like the Nobel prize of music , each year a Classic and a Pop artist is nominated , the prize is handed out from the swedish king (just as in Nobel prize)
Winners have been Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen , Bob Dylan ,Burt Bacharach, Robert Moog , Karlheinz Stockhausen ,Ray Charles , Ravi Shankar ,Iannis Xenakis ,Quincy Jones , Dizzy Gillespie , Paul McCartney . and many others...
Very boring!! , but good well deserved nominations . I think RDJ will be nominated one day.
