I use a Roland sp808ex, a korg er-1 drum machine and my computer running reason 2 and cubase sx and rebirth. Each thing has its good points and bad, Like the 808's zip drive will only run so fast, the maximum bpm is 240, and if i give it somthing a bit too complex it just cuts the track out saying "drive too busy"
What bits of kit do you use and why ?

Yamaha SU10 sampler, cost me £90 years ago, i love it, really limited, only 1 minute sampling time, tiny little thing too, about the size of a gameboy.
also a Roland D50, again cost me £250 years ago, lovely warm sounds
i only use these due to lack of money, can't afford fukall nowadays, but still get alot of use and new sounds from them.

*350Mhz P2 running cakewalk proaudio 9 why? I started out with version 3 and during the years I just got really handy with it.
*Yamaha CS1X My first piece of hardware, versatile thing, lots f good basic sounds, and a nice fx processor. Filters suck on some patches. I like the drumkits in combination with internal distortion.
*novation SuperBassStation whyyy??? At that time I wanted something that sounded like a 3o3.
After 3o3ing a year I discovered the deeper and darker side of that machine.
Really nice for creepy basses but also for juno-like sounds.
*Terratec ews64XL Whyyy??? I still wonder why. I bought it to use as a sampler. Took me 2 years before terratec finally released GOOD drivers and software.
*Roland MKS50 why o why? Needed a very different sound, looked at a lot of oldies, listened a lot of demos and finally decided to buy this one. Sounds nice, apart from the usual gabber and drum and bass sounds it can make real creepy 80s science fiction like sounds.
*Clavia Micro Modular Why?! Because I got myself a whole analogue rack buying that thing.
Programmable via computer, its as big as a VHS tape. *Korg Prophecy Why???? Because, like the MKS50, it can produce unique sounds (MOSS-technology).
Use it for effects or very and with that I mean VERY aggresive leads.
*Spirit F1-16channel mixer. 8mono chans :( but a nice Parametric Eq. *alesis midiverb IV versatile FX processor containing reverd, chorus, flanger, delay, pitchshift.
I prefer hardware because I feel have more direct control over the machines, in contrast to softsynths.

But check my profile to hear those machines in action! Most mp3's are just 22kHz mono due to my modem uplink to the net.

i use Reason 2.
thats it.
i will be getting a powerbook, either DP3 (digital performer 3) or Logic. DP3 is required... but im gonna see if I am allowed to use logic, cause basically i hate DP3. Pray for me. also a MOTU 828 (or the other one... 976? if i have the money) a maduio midi keyboard, Unity software (sampler and synthesizer) and a few other things, (headphones, firewire hard drive, etc)
all this is required for my major... so its cool i have to get it, cause i want it anyways!
***SPAM ALERT***
you can check out my music if you want... Kcinsu
post your stuff too man.

You dont like digital performer?
whaaaaaa?
Logic is cool, but I like performer a little more... ... logic is way better at handling external gear and controlling midi info to and from external gear.... thats for sure
With apple purchasing logic now.... I am sure I will switch back to logic... its going to be neat to see if the new plug in thing they got going will become popular..

i think its not very user friendly, i hate the interface, and its just not as functional as Logic.
Logic is amazing.
but DP3 is required for my film scoring major...
but im gonna ask the Film Scoring Chair if its ok that I use Logic cause Logic also supports video.
And Berklee uses all MACs. and seeing how MAC just bought Logic... well, it seems to make sense that Logic would be a better choice.
we shall see

PLUS...
DP3 hasnt announced a release date for its OSX version... and as off January, new MACs will not be able to boot as 9. and classic mode doesnt support midi and audio... so people wont be able to use DP3 until a new version is released... which could be a long time, seeing as DP3 is based on an older programing code, and they have to completely recode it for OSX.
i think i have a strong case...

None the less I think digital performer is great. Personal preference. I am still going to be running OS 9 on my G4 for a while untill Cycling 74 releases Max/MSP for OS X, and super collider for that matter. ALL of my neat little sound apps are for OS 9 except for Reason.... and the great program that it is....... it IS limited..... and I am not cool with using rewire.... I usually export my stuff into a sequencer app.....
If I want to mess around with my hardware and do some midi altering.... I acasionally use Logic...
Thats about it tough
Its going to be neat to see what happens with Logic. I hope apple doesnt turn it into shit..

apple definatly wont turn it into shit
it will be amazing
but about OSX... see i HAVE to buy a powerbook... and i wont be able to afford it till after january.... sooooo. only OSX....
yeah, reason is limited... but it is still very, very powerful. More then most people think. imo.
rewire is wierd to get used to... i acctualy had to use reason with DP3 for a project... and it was wierd... but i dealt with it. just gotta get used to it

Oh hell yes, its powerfull as hell, and super mega awesome. I use at probubly the most out of any of the apps I have. The routing possibilities in there are so great. Dissapointed that they didnt support vst plugins though.... ack... the whole rewire thing..
Zues you could always buy a powerbook off ebay, for cheap. Sucks that apple is being stupid and only going OS X now... I think its too soon to do this
New powerbooks look sweeeet though

phiz: yeha the su10 is sweet... my and a few mates went camping with one of those, a tr707, md recorder and a shitty circuit bent synth, still got the md of stuff we made somewhere. Seen the su700? i had one on loan for a while - those things are deceptively brilliant for making stuff on, so simple.. crap colour scheme though :)
