introducing music to friends

k, i know this topic has been done a gabillion times before
but your decisions can always change from one thread
to the next.....so, if you could make a 15 track cd to give
to one of your friends, with maybe 3 songs from 5 of your
favourite artists, what would you choose??

the reason i ask, is i lent my "best of []<" cd to a girl
friend of mine who is into mainstream rap, and she gave it
back and said "dood that is fuckin harcore, its awesome!"
so i'm kinda lookin to get more people into idm and all
that.

*hardcore

plus, my "best of []<" is burned, in case anyone is
wondering whether it's a bootleg or what.

make a CD with lots of Squarepusher, the more hardcore
Aphex, some low level Vsnares, and maybe some Alec Empire &
Kid606

yeah, I sent Cock/ver 10 and Boneville Occident to a friend
of mine who is into classic rock and he said they were
awesome... but I dunno if he was being truthful... I lent
him Permutations by Amon Tobin and he said it was cool...
but again, who knows if he's being truthful... :)

I'll have to lend him Drukqs and be done with it!! :)

My girlfriend doesn't dig the IDM stuff :(
She only likes things with words, I guess. :|

hehe, this particular friend of mine said something like
that... that he can only relate to music with words... I
said to him "But music without words SPEAKS TO THE
SOUL!!!!!!!!"

with caps and exclamation points and everything!! :)

sometimes you have to improvise,. a friend of only like soft
acoustic music,... and she's never heard any radiohead,.. so
what I've done is make a "best of radiohead"cd wth the
tracks slowly fading from outright acoustic into radiohead
more exerimental electronic stuff,.. I'll telll you how it
goes

sounds like a mad good idea dood. i'm gonna use that i
think.

only maybe go more from the more hip-hoppish electronica to
more hardcore idm? if that's possible to do in one cd.
hmm...maybe i'll skip the hardcore end for a while. :D

Friends? What are they?

Well, I've converted a few people into Beatles fans, and a
couple in Aphex Twin fans, through rabid praise and
annoyance. Autechre seems impossible.

Me and a mate were having asesh (smoking weed) i his car
one time and I chucked go plastic in and eh was like "this
shit is wicked! except for the parts where I can't follow
the beats"

lol

I usually play my stuff to my friends to get em into idm coz
my stuff is not really hardcore idm and also it's like "hey
we should listen to it coz our friend made it"
so they listen, and theyre all really supportive and that
which is totally cool.

I don't know this.

There's nothing I can say in response to this really that
doesn't make me look all egotistical or false modesty like,
but I really think that comparing me to stairpusher is
blasphemy!

Blashphemer! time for a lynchin'!

Thanks a lot though :)

Yep, lots of my mate prefer my stuff (particularly my more
laid back stuff) to really aggro IDM. I think part of it is
the fact that it's a friend's music, but they do seem to
genuinely want a copy of it. I always get embarresed when
someone likes a track I've done, but it's a nice feeling at
the same time.

A couple of my mates have got into IDM through stuff I've
played them. They're not as into it as say, most people here
are, but they at least like a few tracks and no longer see
it as "noise".

anotherr chance.
