glass is overrated.
he has done some nice things, I'll readily admit, but after about 1 minute I always get the feeling he's using the same little trick over and over and over again.

Yeah, I really like Reich. "Reich: Remixed" is superb- Remixes of Reich's music done by contemporary electronic musicians, Coldcut, DJ Spooky etc. A very good introduction to his work for those who lack the patience or time to get into something like music for 18 musicians...

mmmm.. not sure about a good introduction. there's hardly any reich there at all.
i'd go for music in 12 parts - my favourite of his. thats if you can listen to a piece of music which hardly ever changes and goes on for 3.5 hours. minimalism at its most minimal.

hmm, maybe i just don't like that trick (fast broken triad runs, repeated to death...) cause i don't like glass' music at all...
reich on the other hand is much more exciting to me. i really like violin phase for instance, that piece has character:)

I love you little twits wanking along to your reich and glass and about how genius all this "minimalism" is so minimal. Just a bunch of wankers taking the easy way out of making music and forcing it into the public mind.

why are you even here if you dont like minimal music..... I mean, selected ambient works vol. I, selected ambient works II, classics, ICBYD, GAK, those are pretty minimal..... aside from the "drill and bass", "IDM" is pretty minimal......

I think its brilliant setting such an atmosphere with few sounds.
Unlike you Nathan Jones, you talk a lot and say nothing sensible, I think you should pick up minimalism too.

But the thing is, it's not a few sounds, minimalism is a limiting term just like any other genre and all of you are subject to its boundaries. There is always something more minimal, in 20 years current minimalism will be regarded as a joke. Just because you take something and do very little with it in a boring pattern and call it minimalism does not mean it's well thought out, provoking music.

minimalism rules. no one will get more minimal than john cage's 4'33 because nothing happens in four minutes and thirty three seconds. its an astounding peice of genious work and a testiment to someone with enough guts to do something like this. i think great of that. it shows if you have a musical idea, screw everyone else and do it yourself. if people don't like it thats fine.
but yeah...don't bog on minimalism...

"nothing happens in four minutes"
where did you get that idea? an astounding amount of things can be heard in that piece - the whole world, to be more specific.
the point of 4'33" was that the surrounding sounds during that silence would become the music..

Nathan...ouch!!!...
Do you actually know much about minimalism?...in art, music etc....(it's already over 20 yrs old...)...
Check some Flavin or Judd...even in music, Glass has been going for more than 20 yrs....
Sounds to me as if you might have some pre-conceived ideas but haven't really explored 'em fully...
and, indeed, 4.33 isn't really a minimalist piece - it's more conceptual...the concept being to force you to listen to the sounds around you, the un-noticed sigh so to speak...
"limiting" is an intriguing term to use...care to elaborate exactly what you mean by it?...(as it sounds to me as if it's a limitation you're placing rather than anything inherent in the term minimalist itself...)....I see it as a mindset rather than a blueprint...
