Why don't Ae get awards?

yeah...so like why does AFX seem to win all these awards
and get on charts and Ae is left in the dust? im not saying
in this thread that Ae is better or whatever or that AFX is
better...im just wondering why ae seems to be really...away
from everything...like no one really notices them...does
anyone actually care about Ae?

I love em more than any band and I like em to be
underground. I hope they stay that way. But hey, they're
not getting ignored by any means. heck, they're curating
ATP 2003.

ae's music is probably just too out there for most people to
get into, and afx's music like windowlicker and sawI are
more listenable

( Ae )

they don't put gimmicks into their songs,.. they dont strive
to create interest,.. no,.. they get the listener to do all
the hard work,. most people can't be bothered,.. but
remember th first time you heard "ventolin" "come to daddy"
"powerpil pac man" "windowlicker",... they demand
attention,.. force you to listen to them,.. which means that
more people take notice of AFX,.. this I think,.. is why

AFX gets more media-attention - this has grown through the
years. AFX was seen as the 'mozart of electronic music' etc.
etc.

cos Ae don't make music remotely accessible to 99% of the
population. i'm not faulting them for that, they're
obviously doing what they want and don't care about winning
awards. but yea, don't be surprised people haven't heard of
or intensely hate Ae since it's not easy to get into at all.

not for you and i but i don't think i'm off the mark. 99% is
of the total world population, if you want to narrow it down
to people between 18-25 in all continents except africa and
south america (this is getting silly, isn't it?) then i'd
say Ae is inaccessible to just 75% of that population. my
point is, we're very biased about the music and it's hard
for us to distance ourselves from it and see it from the
eyes of, say, the grammy's (now THERE's the bastion of good
taste in music, hahaha) or your average 16 year old. i'm not
saying Ae is the least accessible group on the planet, it's
just very inaccessible to almost everyone.

I agree on what titsworth said. we're such a small
percentage...lol im sure in the end awards won't matter when
only like.. 3000 people voted for against the
what...millions who vote for grammies or whatever...or those
vote by phone/website shows...

so they don't win awards because theyre not accessable or
'difficult' to listen to?

not becasue theyre dull & repetative then?

offline Amonbrune from Vancouver (Canada) on 2002-11-01 19:08 [#00424458]

:O are you calling ae dull and repetative?!?!?!?! SWINE!!

Ae should win an award called: Award for "Most cool cause
its so incredibly inaccessable".

a bit of sarcasm there but you know what i mean...

I agree about the ''gimmicks''... a lot of AE sounded the
same to me, at first... there weren't any really obvious
hooks. You really have to get to know the tracks, and then
they take on a life and identity of their own. Tough to get
into, obviously.

i wonder when the grammys will start recognizing electronic
music in thier awards...

by the time they get around to it, all the inovators that
deserve the reward will have passed, and they probably
wouldnt even know that they were the innovators

Zeus: the dance category in the grammy awards is a joke

then again, their nominees for every category are a joke.
when the grammy's start giving awards to people based on
their artistic merit instead of their record label pull with
the judges and the album sales maybe then i'll take their
selections seriously.

that would be pretty cool

i dunno who's won, i bet the official grammy site has past
winner lists tho

oscars tend to be less driven by bullshit but obviously it's
still a very contentious fare

yeah

but i just think it would be "cooler" to win an oscar for a
film score, then a grammy for whatever

say what you will, but if i could win an oscar, it would
rock.

The Grammys are ridiculous... Homer Simpson had the right
idea when the B-Sharps won a Grammy and he tossed it out the
hotel window. God bless you Homer J.

i said it's contentious, i didn't say i disliked the academy
awards.. especially for film scores, special fx, makeup, set
design, etc.

the only thing i saw that was close to an electronic
catagory was "Remixers"

give me a break

and i never heard of any of them

they have a best dance category, keep trying.. if it's not
there then look up a grammy web site on google that might
have most lists

Because most of the popular music press acknowledge RDJ's
skill, whereas as many magazines seem to genuinely think
Autechre are a) Noise and b) Taking the piss.
