The elistist mentality here is starting to grate. Sure, I
can admit that artists like Autechre and Afx are more
complicated then lots of other artists out there (and I
enjoy their music) but so what? Does that mean people can't
enjoy other artists (like Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Moby,
ect.) who also produce some top quality music? (Ok...maybe
not Moby so much..:D) I don't want to have to feel afraid
to admiting I like these "golden oldies"....If you don't
like them, thats perfectly fine, but the way people just
describe them as "shit" and then go on about more clever
bands for more clever people gets on my tits a bit. Thanks.
(all music has it's place!)
I know you will all take this the wrong way, so...

1)I like Warp artists too :)
2) I am not trying to start a flame war, just pointing my
opinion out.

I'm too easy going for it to bug me very much. Most of the
time I just laugh and crank up the Pet Shop Boys.

All music has it's place. Just sometimes it's place is
deservedly somewhere far away.

i just think that we shouldnt argue so much on what we're
saying, but should simply say it!
and i add that it will be kewl not to have to read so many
kind posts on every shitty mgm-universal-globalisation
artist around!!! they're already having their 15 minutes of
fame, so please dont throw flowers at them on an aphex
messageboard...
hey ! relax thats only my opinion!!

"All music has it's place. Just sometimes it's place is
deservedly somewhere far away. "

hehe....I meant all music apart from manufactured pop
then....And, I'm not saying some of the artists I like
should always be admired, just that you shouldn't diss them
and say "they're shit" just becuase they might not be as
experimental as Afx. I think Vangelis and Jarre are too
people who deserve more respect.

i've never posted on okayplayer.com because the people there
are very judgemental, ignorant, closeminded, and elitist. i
read interesting threads on that board but have never
created an account over the two years i've visited the site.
unfortunately over the last few weeks on this board i'm
seeing signs of the same thing on this board, mostly from
people who started coming here this summer or fall. while i
agree everyone should be able to express him or herself
without restriction on here, and musical taste is worth
discussing, i don't think it's being done in a very
understanding or tolerant manner. in fact, it perfectly
mirrors the closeminded attitude of some of electronic
music's biggest critics.

just be respectful of other people's musical tastes no
matter how different it is from yours or how similar it is
to "the mainstream." and it'd be even better if you were not
only respectful of different tastes but actually OPEN MINDED
about them, perhaps giving them a good listen.

tits: not to start anything here... just making an
observation, but I think you are one of the most judgemental
people here.

Sure you listen to all types of music, but if anyone
challenges your ideas, its like they are morons.

You come off very condesending.

Again, not trying to start shit, but thats just how it feels
when ever I discuss music with you.

zeus: i don't really like discussing music w/ you because
you yourself can be very closeminded, ignorant, judgemental,
intolerant, etc. when it comes to music, and that brings out
the worst in me. other people i'm not so bad, and believe me
i'll realize it immediately or shortly after if i'm being a
bit unfair to someone about music. i don't ever question
someone's right to listen to any kind of music, i just
sometimes find myself wondering if they're familiar with ___
band or musical movement and exactly how much listening and
thinking they've done before judging.

so be it. other people agreed with it and i myself stand by
it and don't find any irony in it. no one is perfect so if i
sometimes break from my intentions then i think i shouldn't
be held on any special scale just cos of how you perceive my
supposed tone.

offline The_Funkmaster from St. John's (Canada) on 2002-10-31 14:37 [#00423003]

I totally agree with this... I find it a lot myself... I
have, and will continue to express my liking of people and
bands like Peter Gabriel, Tears for Fears, Toto, etc, etc,
no matter what anyone says... because I like it, and I don't
care about what someone thinks... I myself do say sometimes
"That sucks!!" but I really mean, "I think that sucks"... I
have nothing against anyone for liking anything, or look
down at anyone, so in the future if I say "Oh, that sucks,
and you suck ass for liking it" then, just realize I'm not
putting you down!!! ;)

but about what Zeus said about titsworth, I can see
sometimes what you might mean about him being elitest and
whatever, but I don't take it as being that way... he's just
an informed (REALLY informed) music fan who tells it like it
is... he's usually dead on with his facts, and if he's a bit
blunt sometimes then so be it... there's no point beating
around the bush...

*hugs titsworth*

:)

i didn't want to pat myself on the back and say "i know what

myself.

it's just annoying when people look down on you because of
