Well, some weeks ago some of you asked me about my music
and at the moment my old band Drift had only one song up on
MP3.com. In the meantime, my brother posted most of our
songs at the following addy:

driftsabatlije.iuma.com

so anyone interested in our dumb and boring (not to mention
poorly produced) music can check it out.

The band disbanded in 1995 and this stuff was made in 1994.
No one listened to it then, and I guess no one wants to
listen to it now, so I just enjoy spamming this MB is all.

I will listen tonight , I can imagine what your music will
be like. Lets see how accurate my idea of it is :)

You'll probably be very disappointed. It's boring, generic
and boring. And badly produced. Plus, I have just noticed
that my brother lied: the recording and the mix of the album
took 14.5 hours not 12 or 13 as he would have it. The tracks
on the site are amost the whole album (minus a bad "ambient"
track and minus Beatles cover that would have Ophecks raging
with bloodlust).

They covered Whitesnake's 'Is This Love' and here is Meho at
the time http://www.mulletjoe.com/judge5.gif

Haha, jonesy, always a prankster. Actually, I loved
Whitesnake in my youth, but I know better than to try to
sing like David Coverdale. My singing was more like "urgh,
urgh, aaaarggghh, grooowr" and trying to emulate his erotic
murmur this way would be a sacrilege. However, we DID
desecrate Beatles, so I guess, Whitesnake will be my next
obvious choice...

Lee Dorian eat yer heart out.

I have one question...

Were you using a pitchshifter or you have uncommonly large
brassy ones?

This ones in my favourites. I'm checking this out tonight.

No pitchshifter. I used it on one track that is not featured
on this site and in which I speak in my normal voice and the
pitchshifted vocal doubles it. Using Pitchshifter was equal
to cheating to me in those days. All those Deicide and
Cannibal Corpse records with statements "no electronic
harmonizer has been used on vocals" were a challenge.

Anyway, the music is quite dumb, don't you agree.

far from it actually...that long chanting sample on the
feeder...and the tasty flute on each track.....and your
VOX...there is really something cookin there...

offline Meho Krljic from Beograd (Yugoslavia) on 2002-10-30 07:44 [#00421492]
Points: 6617 Status: Addict | Followup to flea: #00421488

Haha, everybody seems to be falling for the flute. I
personally see it as a cheap trick. Chanting is good,
agreed, a grape-picking song from serbia. My vocals are
quite ridiculous when heard against that kind of backdrop. I
was heavily into Cannibal Corpse at the time (well, I still
am) and I wanted to sound like Chris Barnes on "Tomb of the
mutilated". I almost got there, but that makes the music
very kitschy. However, I can't exactly sing properly...

you can call it a cheaptrick..but in the right hands it
would have been just the right PR gimmick...come on admit
it..it's usually that one elusive indescribable element that
seperates the bands that stand out from those who just gets
lost in the quaqmire that metal quickly became...the flute
and willingness to dip intoyour culture and folklore(I only
know of Sepultura and it's off shootwho does that..the
restofmetal...is a fairly homogenised monochromatic
culture)..you had two..

Hmm, I dunno, the flute was more or less inspired by
Cathedral's first album. The folklore stuff was inspired
by... hmm, can't really remember now, but I am sure we stole
that idea from someone too... My problem is that the songs
are boring, the production sucks arse and that my singing is
embarassing... Other than that, we are good, I guess...

the riffs and drums could do with a bit of groove...and yes
the changes are a bit predictable..that was only real
complaint

The funny thing is a local guy over here wants to put out a
re-pressing of that album even though no-one listened to it
in the first place. The rest of the band are all for that
and I really like to think that I've progressed way beyond
that album... The drummer today plays even worse than he
used to and my brother plays the most boring guitar in the
world. He progressed from making show-offy difficult riffs
to making difficult to play, but dumb sounding riffs...

Er, what I was trying to say was: I hope I have progressed
so now I know I'm seriously untallented.

I play drums in two bands, the rock band called Ventolin
(influenced by Neil Young, Dream Syndicate, Steve Wynn,
Jayhawks etc.) and a grindcore band Acroholia (early Napalm
Death clone). Both these bands are pretty mediocre. I also
have some cut-up/ tape manipulation stuff I've done with a
friend, but that's not terribly interesting either.

Oh, yeah, I wanted to. She is a real cutie. I just wanted to
be polite for once.

But, seriously, I am just being realistic. I am old enough
to know what the good music should sound like. Spikee Dragon
has heard Acroholia, so he can tell you I am not lying.

Maybe, but I do not suffer from any stresses. Music
ploaying/ creating for me is about communicating with my own
"spirit" in the first place. However, I am aware that it do
not communicate with other people's "spirits" too well...

BTW, you are full of shit too: if I could make music you
make I'd be very happy.

hmm.. you think..
I dunno having played live in kinda pretensious avant fart
(thank you Netlon Sentinel) bands that were mostly3 to 4
people creating rackets locked into their own grooves far
removed from any of the audience or a semblence of gestalt
among the band members...

we were a joke...

but I still miss it..it somehow seemed more real than what I
am doing now....

at least your bands have cohension..decipherability

Oh, no, I do a lot of free-improv stuff, don't ya worry.
That music is very important to me. It makes you really feel
a responsibility and freedom at the same time.

Not that I am too good at it, either...

the last I played in a band that played songs that could be
construed as songs was mostly a covers band that wasdoing
80's new wave/goth hybrids as a teenager...

never got into an arrangement to play in a good kick arse
industrial band as I so longed to..the ahem..improv lot I
got into we were originally gonna be a Skinny Puppy crossed
with Noise core ala Cop Shoot Cop..( I played a modified
bass through several effects processor to get both high and
low end)..but things quickly deteriorated...they soon became
ABOVE playing songs with structures...art school wanks
:(....and hence the improv rackets..

I listen to a lot of improv stuff. I love that music. As I
said, it involves absolute freedom mixed with iron
discipline. However, a lot of people see it as just a
free-for all type of affair...

Flute, you don't like flute? Hey, EVERYBODY seems to like

Yeah,. Sterilized is almost OK (save for the production) and
Reanimation Sequence too, weren't it for my brother fucking
up the guitar part at one spot, me having too much reverb on
vocals, and me fucking up at the very end. It was all just
