I just think that there are way too many amature musicians out there. Its all fine and good to make music in your spare time, but unless you actually got something going, don't you think its a bit too much putting it online and posting links everywhere including the inside of your mothers garter belt.
Agree? Y/N

Nope. I've heard amateurs that sound better then professionals.
Shit I've heard local bands doing the pub circuit that are better live than professionals.

dunno, people need to know if what they are making is shit or not, usually when you create something you can be a bit too biased, so i think it's good to get a different veiwpoint on your creations, like i'm way too over critical with my own tunes that i don't want nobody to listen to them until i think they're perfect.
i dont think you can have too many amateaurs in anything, that way people who take that step beyond amateaurism can rise above a big pile.

i agree with Taxidermist.
Yesterday, there was a guy (not on this MB) that told me to listen to one of his songs..well, it was SHITE!
My point is, don't put your link up if you think your music rules all, when it's actually total crap.

I know lots of Amateur musicians who later became signed. It depends how serious you take your music making, and how ambitious you are

it's cool coz you don't ahve to pay to download unsigned music.
ppl have a good idea of whats good and shiz, if youre after decent unsigned free music, just ask around on the boards for whos good and whatnot.
youre pretty safe with most of the ppl on teofsav, though, that place is what it is.
but yeah there's so much shit happening that no one has the time to listen to everythign and a lot of shit gets left behind.
kinda sad, but hey everyones doing somethig that they love, so more power to them/us.

no watches.no maps from FAT CAT RECORDS.. comprised entirely of the then unsigned artists unsolicited DEMOS sent to Fat Cat Records that FAT CAT couldnt afford to sign...
included here are
Mokira (Andreas Tilliander) COM.A and Joesph Nothing (both now on mu)..
one of the better compilations I paid for..

being an amatuer or professional artist doesn't say anything about the quality of his/her work.
i think that if you like music and want some personal opinions from other people, then they should do it, wether their amateurs or not.

Personally I like most of Cerulean (AKA Wayout) & Xanpha (AKA Teapot)'s music more than all but the best "pro" artists (AT, BoC, Portishead, Massive Attack etc.). Sure, there are little production elements etc. that could be cleared up, but the "music" is still a lot better IMO. I'd hate to see them stop making stuff, I really do think, "oh great a new Cerulean track" much like I'd say, "Yes! Twoism re-issue"...

there's no shame in trying to make music, then you post your first song, then people tell you it sucks and then they tell you what you need to start doing and what you need to do for your next track, tis what i did, who cares if your music sucks? atleast you're trying

"Anyway, most "signed" music is shit too, and it gets advertised aggressivly too, so what's the difference?" good point...
as for hotmail, it is a giant spamfest... a lot of mp3.com users send out bulk spam. they say something vague that can be sent to everyone like "hi! I liked your music a lot, keep it up! (then of course they give you a link to their music)"

I always send responses to those like:
"Hmm, I can't really see why you liked my music, it's very different from yours.. which track was it that you liked?"
That said, I do get on well with one guy met via such spamming (mainly because his music is pretty good and he's not annoying).

I think it's important to give constructive criticism and praise to anyone who's making music and wants someone to hear it. This is a great place to share your creations and get feedback. I've got plenty of saved mp3s that people from here made, and I still listen to them. There are a lot of talented people who visit this board.
