I havent owned an ant farm, i was always far too concerned
that the ants would escape and run amok throughout my room.
However, I have often engaged in playing the critically
acclaimed "Sim Ant" on PC. I recommend it.

in permanent marker

Had a huge number of woodlice in the tank as well until
recently, then they all suddenly decided to come to the
surface and die en mass...

There was an 1cm later of dead woodlice covering the whole
tank (it's a mid sized fish tank BTW)...

Like some weird death cult thing...

Hope my ants are ok; had em over 2 yrs now and got kinda
attached to em...they hibernate or stay deep below soil at
this time of year; so I don't see much of em til spring
now...

jand, evacuate your home immediately. I fear the situation
has become much more complicated...

All creatures would love to live in two dimensions. I know I
would.

Yes, it is a cult Jand. you see, there is this event that
happens every 305 years. a giant wood comet crosses the
earth's paths and woodlice that die at that EXACT day go to
it...and live on it forever. so you see...all your woodlice
are in fact living on a wooden comet hurdling through
space..in their absolute bliss! its all for the best
Jand...its all for the best.. :(

^ hehe...

w M w .. ever read FLATLAND ? it's a well funny little book
about living in a 2D world...

don't they believe the world has something like 26
dimensions now?...part of the superstring theory...that's
seriously mind-effing stuff...

live with me you see..

how about you put your avatar on top of itself, only like 12
frames lagging behind... and somehow blended together so one
isn't "behind" the other.

like these you mean...

http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~jand/index.html ...

http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~jand/germ02.html...

http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~jand/germ11.html...

http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~jand/germ12.html...

be warned...they may take a minute or so to load if you are
on 56K...

These ones have multiple loops on top of each other but 1
loop is like 100 frames, the other 99...so they constantly
generate new images; think loop len is something like
9900....

it's a subtle effect as the loops slowly go out of sync....

Wow, someone else who read flatland! Yes, its a great book.
I particularly liked the way the 3d creatures refused to
believe there was a 4th (or 5th etc.) dimension... Great
book and the social commentry in it is good too.

Have you read Empire of the Ants (forget the author, it's
originally in french though...)?

offline neetta from Finland on 2002-10-30 05:18 [#00421311]

hm. its probably the same book? is it empire of the ants in
english?

in the book, there is a surprising basement, an ant
conspiracy etc. etc.
(tryin to explain without spoiling)

Yep, that's the one. Did you read it in french? I was
almost motivated to re-learn french in order to read
the original of that book...
