as an old member of this MB i kno that this thread has been
posted before, but (and being a lazy ass not using the
search function,,,which btw, sorry Phobia...sucks) i just
wanted to post that i don`t know if any of you folks can
listen to IDM and IDM only. I`ve met some people that can,
personally, i can go listening only to drill_core for
months, but then i listen to Björk`s Gling Glo and my whole
balance goes to shite. so without furthermore explanations,
comment on this people, favourite music tastes,
insights......errr......anything.

I listen to loads of metal, probably more than any other
genre. I also like lots of hip hop and rock.

Yeah. I was in a state of IDM bliss but then I started
thinking it was all getting to glitchty / pop-clicky. It
was a bad state and I looked for more 'band music'...i
bought the cd from Interpol called Turn on the bright
lights. its great. This music phase i had wasn't that long
ago...early this month or last.

but now im back into IDM really deeply and listening to a
lot of 'pop and hiss' songs like pole and them.

But yeah i can't listen to IDM only...there's other stuff to
listen to. can't wait for Radiohead's new cd :) Im
listening to a lot of Sarah Mclachlan right now...she's
cool. so yeah...

I listen to a very wide range of music -- classical, jazz,
folk, Johnny Cash, ragtime, some metal, oldies (50s and
60s), prog rock, electronica, and any others I've
forgotten... only stuff I mostly don't dig is chart music
and country music

well of course there's the afx/squarepusher/squares side.
but then there's the side with the mellower stuff
(boc/casino vs. japan/autechre). then there's the side of me
that listens to neutral milk hotel and local h. and a lil
bit of hip hop

oh yeah, I forgot to mention hip hop, too -- I love Public

don't really dig commercial 'hiphop/r'n'b' or gangsta rap -
although I love "season of da siccness" by brother lynch
hung, and the Westside Connection CDs

classical, some rock, some hip hop.

Mostly IDM/electronica and Classical (classical meaning all
types of classical, from bach, to 21st century avante garde
maddness )

:)

Mainly IDM & Electronica. BoC & Aphex are in heavy rotation
right now.

A bit of hip hop. Outkast, De La Soul, etc.

Some rock, but I dont know if what i listen to counts as
rock. Radiohead (A LOT), Beck, Fiona Apple, etc.

A little bit of pop (guilty pleasures). Like i was obsessed
with the new kylie minouge single for a while recently.

I have a bigger appetite for rock, with plenty of IDM on the
side.

I don't like hip-hop at all, whether it be the commercial
bling bling crap or the better stuff... it's just not my
thing. No country at all... and I don't like world music.
Exotic, foreign instruments.

I'm a hater!

all these i still break out on occasion.

i hate it too.

but what i hate most is r'n'b, most rap and opera.

i can't stand opera.
maybe because it's so artificial, i don't know...

why is opera so artificial?

offline uzim on 2002-10-28 14:06 [#00419460]
Points: 17716 Status: Lurker

because of the way they sing, it sounds more artificial than
any distorted voice ample or anything to me - i suppose i'm
too immature to appreciate it but to me it sounds like the
emotions in opera are sacrified to the way they treat their
voices. and since i don't like the music...

offline uzim on 2002-10-28 14:09 [#00419461]
Points: 17716 Status: Lurker

it is anything but emotional, i feel like hey just modulate
their voice to impress people and the story is nothing but a
pretext to the music...

sounds so pretentious to me.

offline slint on 2002-10-28 14:09 [#00419462]

i listen to a lot of old stuff like frank zappa(hot rats is
the best)soft machine,jimi hendrix,king crimson...also a bit
of jazz..but also a lot of indie rock and post rock like
sonic youth,pavement,butthole surfers,big black,jesus
lizard,slint,tortoise,gastr del sol,don caballero,us
maple,flying luttenbachers.....

so is it artificial to learn the chords to the guitar, or
take piano lessons, or to throat sing? Since, like Opera
vocals, it's just a matter of training-- plus, most arias in
good opera are extremely emotional, mainly because of the
singing

maybe you haven't listened to it enough, or not operas that
have a good example -- my favourite opera is "Lucia

Actually, since i discovered this MB back in February with
the start of V5, I've almost completely gone off bands and
all that. I'd been starting to hate anything Top 40 before
that, but didn't know anything else. I'll still gladly
listen to Radiohead and Weezer, and maybe the odd punk track
as well. Nothing more tho. ALLLL IDM and electronica stuff.

sometimes after listening to lots of electronic

intricate, what electronic music is often trying to do in
the first place. but there's limitations on both sides.

buddy holly, muddy waters, velvet underground, dose one,
talking heads, the pixies, marley marl, slug (of
