AFX and Orbital: Against war!

Yep. I just heard on Much News on our prime music channel
here Much Music that both Aphex Twin and Orbital will be
lending their talents against a 2 disc compilation thats
geared toward anti-war efforts / feelings. Not sure what
songs these artists will be giving out or if they'll be
contributing new material but all i have to say is
whoa...aphex twin getting this serious?

oops...let me rephrase that:

"will be lending their talents for a 2 disc compilation
thats geared toward anti-war efforts / feelings."

[THE FULL STORY]

Electronic Protest

"Aphex Twin and Orbital are just two of the hottest
electronic artists contributing tracks and mixes to The Fire
This Time, an album protesting a possible war in Iraq.
According to billboard.com, the two-CD anti-war album will
be released December 2nd through UK indie label, Hidden Art.
Most of the album contains music written exclusively for the
project, described by its organizer as "a permanent record
of the fate of Iraq."

artists who get political confuse me sometimes.

that's an unsupported remark, but I do wish singers would
stick to singing, etc...

politicians don't hold rallies for a "rap cause" cuz they
don't know rap. What are artists doing pushing their weight
around for antiwar capitalism/consumerism...... I just don't
understand

Orbital has always been political, just listen
"Snivilisation" sometime...

"O"

I think its okay. artists have their political views and
they're allowed to contribute to things musically. Like for
instance the 9/11 bombing...people might want to be helped
through music. others will try to project their political
views through stuff like this. i think its okay..but...when
you think of it, what does hardkore IDM have to do with
war??? all i know is that stuff like Ventolin might CAUSE
war! lol....

just against it because you are prowar procapitalism. my
guess..

that says "bomb the commies, bomb the commies" over and over

how isn't getting big name talent, to push units of a CD,
pro-capitalism?

it is, and hell, I'm a capitalist. But what does adding to
consumerism do for anyone?

I'm 100% against any military action in Iraq, but why do I
need to try to sell CD's to prove it?

offline Amonbrune from Vancouver (Canada) on 2002-10-24 14:55 [#00415721]

I really think America needs to find whoever did this and do
something drastic. we cant have terrorits running around
can we? no. so i think america will do what seems
nesseccary.

Blantant?

offline BlatantEcho from All over (United States) on 2002-10-24 14:59 [#00415724]

I've hear many professors @ my college speak about it.

The reprocusions of war are very very dire. We must force
diplomatic action, yes, FORCE diplomacy, to disarm and
restrain him.

We simply can not risk a unilateral attack against him, with
the oil he controls, in an unstable region, with no
provacation.

offline BlatantEcho from All over (United States) on 2002-10-24 15:00 [#00415725]
Points: 7210 Status: Lurker

*heard......

*sigh*

honestly though, world goes to shit quick if we attack,
plain and simple.

besides, terrorist hate him, he isn't religious. BinLaden
hates his guts almost as much as he hates us.

offline Amonbrune from Vancouver (Canada) on 2002-10-24 15:02 [#00415727]

PFFF...so what if we kill osama. he doesn't control oil
does he? so what if he does, there are others that do...

war isn't good i know. and its the last thing on my mind
but if theres nothing else that will stop this ....

oh god, if we left political issues to the politicians do
you know where we'd BE today? in the dark ages. the country
you (blatantecho) and i live in wouldn't even exist if
everyday people (such as singers) weren't unhappy with the
political situation. i can't believe you think people
SHOULDN'T express their political discontent or try to
convince others of a cause.

black lung? this looks a little shady. almost seems like an
internet compilation of fan remixes and unlicensed b-sides.

they have audio clips of all the tracks up now

what do you guys think?

i think they made come to daddy too dramatic.. twisting it
to serve out of it's original context... i dont like it.

this thing is just like an audio documentary (but extremely
one sided-of course, so maybe more like propoganda), the
music on this thing is only a sound track to accompany this
little lesson

whatever music they chose to feature on it is practically
irrelavent

i dont care if artists get political
thats great, IF they actually know what they're talking
about

some of these tracks are pretty cool

project...quite an established figure in the Electro
Industrial Circles...
